Okami was a good game, but I don't think it was the best of the year. TP and Gears and, maybe, FFXII were better. I think this was partially because they wanted the game to get recognized because it does deserve to be in the league of these games.

You can't just think a game is better because it is more popular. A good game is a good game no matter who made it or how popular it is.

I really wanted to play Okami because it looks beautiful. Sadly the DDR in the PS2 Drive blew thanks to Sony's crappy handling with PS2's manufacturing.

Anyway, if Okami only got a 9.1 and both Gears + LoZ got higher, how are they not Game of the Year? Contradiction? Hypocrites? Meh.

So obviously IGN preferred GOW over Okami hence their score and the public obviously preferred GOW seeing the sales numbers.

Zelda got a 9.5, first of all. Second, scores are one person's opinion. The awards are voted on by the entire editorial staff. And units sold has no place in an award of this type.. it isn't "Best Selling Game 2006." Should Pirates of the Caribbean win Best Picture because it earned the most revenue?

I still contend that GoW's popularity is due to 70% hype and 30% graphics. It's not a groundbreaking game in any other way.. but neither is Okami and I would have placed it above Okami because of coop and graphics.

Yes, if Pirates gained the most money and most 5 star reviews of any other movie it should, it means more people liked it overall and that is what is important.

I don't give a shit about GOW the game is good, but I am more about understanding why this game that didn't get better reviews then probably atleast 10 other games this past year, didn't sell as many copies, doesn't have as good of graphics, doesn't have multiplayer, is last-gen and is virtually unheard of by most people can win game of the year. Is this game just so much more fun that it can get away with all of its flaws?
