I downloaded DirectX 9c like it said, but it still not working. Can anyone help me with this? My conclusion was that I need a new video card.

This is exactly why I never buy PC games anymore. It's a fucking gamble if they'll even work. Last game I bought was Silent Hill 3... I find out it won't work after installing 5 god damn discs.

What are you talking about? If you are a computer gamer you will know exactly what parts are in your computer, everything up to date, you'll read the box requirements. It's easy as pie.
But I'm assuming you bought a $300.00 budget Dell and then upgraded to a 15" LCD for $350.00 now thinking that your computer is a lean mean gaming machine.

chip type: intel 82915G/GV/910GL express chipset
idk if that helps... any more info you need?

It doesn't help.
Start > Run > dxdiag
Post the type and speed of your processor.
Post the amount and speed of your RAM.
Now click "Display."
Post the model of your video card, then we will have something to go on.
You don't need DX9 for CoD2 anyway.
Go options > graphics and change the rendering options to DX7.
Edit
That error message doesn't mean your PC can't run the game. I got it a while ago and my PC is fine for that game.
Try running a system restore, which worked for me.
Funny thing is, last time this happened it just fixed itself.

OK if you want some help here's what we need you to do:
Go to Start -> Run -> Type in "dxdiag" without the quotation marks, hit enter
If a box pops up asking about WHQL click Yes
Screenshot the System information window (Its the first page that pops up)
Then click on the display tab (top left) and screenshot that as well.
Now upload the images to Imageshack or photobucket and give us the links so we can see what type of rig your running.
EDIT-
Fuck, Burningnun bet me to it by one minute.

Burningnun- ill run a sys restore now.
Newb1e St1l3Z- no prob posting the same stuff, i like the screenshot idea better, less work.

well your generic graphics will not be able to handle Cod 2 very well if at all.
start by updating your drivers. your system spec is fine for low/medium setting Cod 2.
http://www.soft32.com/download_172313.html i think thats the right one
if you live in the UK/Europe and you getting it working you should come join me online.

I read the system requirements, and this was on my old computer. I had everything I needed, then it said after install that my card doesn't support vetex/pixel shading, something which it DIDN'T say in the bottom of the fucking box.
I don't bother with computer games, anyways.

Ew. Intel graphics are pretty horrible. If you're in the UK I would probably spend about £50 on a 6600GT (which probably costs about $60 in America) on eBay.
As your spec stands at the moment you can probably run it but only on minimum resolution, DX7, model and texture settings on low, AA and AF off. Even with that don't expect a good framerate.
Your memory is a bit low though. The first thing I would do is upgrade to 1GB since that will improve all aspects of performance, not just gaming.
BTW Thomson add burningnun to xfire and we can play some time :)

Word...2, as I'm running a Gforce 6600GT as well with a Pentium 4 (PressHot 3 GHz but I can Oc the thing up to 3.6 no probs, gonna try get the thing to hit 4 ghz once I get a new rig this time next year) with 1 GB of RAM and Im running CoD 2 at these settings (http://img486.imageshack.us/img486/4615/6600gtcod2settingsju3.jpg) with no frame drop below 45 in any part of the game.
Oh and as for the upgrades:
Memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820231078
AGP Card: WTF apparently Newegg don't stock AGP 6600's anymore.
Any one else care to help?

OT what kind of cooling are you gonna use to get up to 4ghz Newb1e?
Oh and what kind of framerate do you get on those settings? You need 125 constant in a lot of instances which is probably one of the worst things about CoD2.

With the pentium Im gonna get a big Zalman sunflower cooler and see how high I can go with that and then I might rig up a homemade watercooling system.
Pic of Pentium running at 3.6 with stock cooler and a 0.1 Voltage increase at 57 degrees.
Oh and about CoD 2...... Yeah I meant to say 45 instead of 75, sorry.
But I do get a constant 75 on CoD 1 (I've got both games), and I prefer 1 to #2.
Edit -
Oh and I almost forgot, you could get a 6800GS and Unlock it to a 6800GT if your on a budget and wanna take a risk.

You actually can't unlock anything on the 6800gs. Nothing after the AGP version of the 6800 could be unlocked. The 6800gs can only be overclocked to surpass the 6800gt in performance, and is also made from a different chip that only has 12 pipelines compared to the 16 on the 6800gt, and all the pipelines are unlocked.
But if you're looking for a cheap alternative to the 6800gt, the 7600gt is cheaper and faster than the 6800ultra. They don't make the 6800gs in AGP form, last time I checked. But there is a 7600 in AGP form.

A friend of mine has the 6800GS AGP. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-035-OK
Speaking of unlocking cards, I think you can get the X800 GTO (?) and unlock it to a X800XTX.

I guess they did make one after all.
And the x800gto, I don't think, you can unlock. It's the x800gto2 that you can flash, which will automatically unlock the pipelines and overclock the card, to match an x850xt. The XTX suffix didn't actually come around until the x1900 series, BTW. But I'll check on the x800gto, I'm pretty sure it's just a newer version of the x800gt, and nothing more.

There's a difference between the GTO and the GTO2? Well ain't that something?
I thought it was just the power deeley on the back.
XT, XTX, who gives a toss? I can't remember that shit and regurgitate it off the top of my head.

Yeah like usefulidiot said, it's only the GTO2 that can unlock, thats why they are so hard to find at the moment, well at least in NZ anyway.
And thanks Burningnun for backing me up, as I there were AGP 6800GS since I had to choose between one of those or a 6600GT. (And I would've chosen the 6800GS If i know you could unlock it back then).

I have a x800GTO PCI-e and I can unlock to become an x850. Most regular x800GTO's can't unlock, but mine can because of the manufacturer I got it from (Sapphire). It all depends on the manufacturer.
There is no need for me to unlock it though. I play all games at full settings without a problem, which include: Doom 3, WoW, CS, Halo, Guildwars, Half Life 2 and Farcry.

i just installed all of my CoD2 Collectors Editions and the entire bar filled up but it wont continue and every 5 minutes this comes up "Error 1305.Erro reading from file D:\Setup\Data\main\iw_13.iwd. Verif that the file exists and that you can access. RETRY of CANCEL. when it was installing i would click retry it would go on. but before i had it installed and it worked for a while. then the startup menue wouldnt come up. then for some reason i dont think it could read the disk. it always worked well until then. then i un-installed it and now it wont go. should i just buy a new game?
LukeyMoo

well even if buying a new game was the last option, all you gotta do to get a new copy is write a complaint letter to the company telling how disappointed you are in this product and how faithful of a customer you have been up to this point blah blah blah.
but try downloading moar ram.

On the subject of video cards, does anyone know the pipeline count on a nVidia FX 5950 ULTRA? I'm thinking of building a really small PC for running CS:Source on Windows ME that I can take to LANs and possibly school, if I partition it to have XP with Office, WMP n shit.
The 5950 seems pretty damn cheap on eBay nowadays, as in, the AGP riser will probably cost a similar price to the card itself :p

It's got 8 pipelines. It's the same as the 5700 and 5800 AFAIK, and really isn't worth the prices they're being sold for. The 6600gt has the same number of pipelines, and runs about the same speed, if I remember correctly, plus has support for shader model 3. The same goes for the 7600gs. I'd reccomend a 6800gs for those prices, though, assuming you somehow found the 5950s for $100. Or even the 7600gt, if you're willing to spend $150.

Hehehehe... prices?
The card I've got my eye on looks like it's going for about £20.
Anyway thanks for the info... sounds like it should be fine for what I need it for if I do decide to pick one up.
By the way, what does 'pixels per clock' mean? Is that the same as pixel pipelines?

All of the pipelines do one pixel per clock cycle. Clock cycle is another word for the number of times an operation is completed in a second, also know as a frequency. I think the clock frequency is around 450mhz on a 5950, times 8 pipelines makes 3.6 billion pixels per second. It's really not much, considering the 8800gtx can do over 80 billion per second.
Burningnun

OK yeah so 4 pixels per clock means the same a 4 pixel pipelines?
8 x 450 000 000 is probably more than my current card and as I said, I just want a cheap card for running Source.
3.6bn @ £20 vs 80bn @ £300... I want to buy a car sometime this year and I'm a student :p
