Ok so i went to gamestop like 2 weeks ago to buy Def Jam for PSP. Because its rated M (and im only 15), they wouldnt let me buy it. But i used to buy M games ALL THE TIME when i was like 9. Also, today i went to best buy to buy FEAR. They said i couldnt unless i had a parent w. me because i didnt have ID. Luckily i did so now i have Fear :) Any way, do you think they made some new law about this..or are they just starting to enforce it?

Did you ever READ the box? You just got lucky before, and I DO doubt you purchased M games at 9(depends on the retailer really). maybe you were just so much younger, and everything seemed more "mature"?

It's always been a law, stores just didn't enforce it for the sake of profit. However, stores have been getting sued over selling these Rated T, rated M to kids whose parents didn't approve.
I'm 18, I'm carded frequently at Circuit City, EB games, Best buy, I haven't been carded until I turned this wonderful age. Best Buy cashier said they are becoming much more strict.

The ESBR ratings are not enforced by the law, at least, not in the USA. The fact that stores are starting to enforce them is a good thing though.
Sure, people here might bitch about it, but it's really quite simple. If your parents don't think you should be playing a game, than you shouldn't be playing it. If they think it's perfectly fine, than they can go buy it for you.

wtf?? in aus, m rating is available to anyone. they have MA which means you need to be 15 and games arent allowed to be released with an R rating, so when your 15, its all available.

In canada i have never had a problem with buying a M rated game, which i was buying at the age of 12.

no no i swear to god when i was 9 or 10 i bought Devil May Cry because my parents dont really care if i play M games coz everyones seen people blown in half before. Ever since then Ive been buying M games and they recently started asking me for ID.
yeah, you just got lucky.
When I was 12, I tried buying Perfect Dark for N64. They wouldn't let me unless my mom was there. That was 9 years ago. Similar thing happened when I tried getting HL2 last summer. I like how some people say I look like I'm 28 while retailors need me to go out to my car to get my driver's licence to prove I'm over 18 still.

You're 15. You should be studying, not playing M rated games and tooling around on this forum. Same goes for all you other whippersnappers.

You have to input a birthday to buy a rated M game at Target. I always love reading the reasons why it's rated M. A lot of lil bastards try to buy these games especially Grand Theft Auto. It's sad when parents don't care after I tell em it though, it happens a lot too.
