Notre Dame WR Jeff Samardzija signs 5 year deal with cubs, and says he wont play in the NFL, wow.

I saw this coming for a long time. He was drafted back in June by the Cubs and got a record signing bonus for that round. Any money he could make in baseball dwarfs what he could make in football. A team can draft him this year and hold his rights like Drew Henson. As a baseball player he is nothing to drool over. A high 90's fastball with a so-so curve and change and average control. The odds of him making the majors are not very good, as is the case with any prospect. He is a much better prospect as a WR IMO.

I think he made the right choice. I don't think he could have done much in the NFL, plus he'll save his body and make more money playing baseball.

I'd rather him be in the NFL, but his hear is where the money's at.

I think he made the wrong decision. He wouldn't be playing as much in football and making a lot of money. He would have a lot more rest and as you say 'his body would be better in baseball' I have to disagree as the baseball season is very long and arduous for a pitcher. As a decent WR he would have a lot more rest and probably be better set for life.

technically he oculd do both, liek Deion Sanders, but if not, hes still got a good check coming, 8 million for 5 years is good for a minor leaguer, very good, i just cant imagine him being as good as prior or kerry wood, but hey i would wanna be in the MLB over any otehr sport, something about it is awesome.

Well hes not going to be playing the coast guard anymore, that might have contributed to his decision.

I'm happy. Samardzija has potential to be a great pitcher.

its true, he didn't beat any good teams. i seem to remember a ball hitting him in the back of the head in the endzone during their biggest game of the year. however, to tell you the truth i'd rather put my junk in a meat grinder than play for the cubbies, so its a toss up in my opinion. either suck in the nfl or play for a crap baseball team.
with that said, heres an ol' time favorite...
A drunk Brewers fan, a smart Cubs fan and Santa Claus find a $50 bill laying on the sidewalk, who picked it up?
The drunk Brewers fan......the other two don't exist

no brainer for Samardzija IMO. although i think he has ability in football, i think he would have struggled alot in his first few years. Beating NFL CBs is quite a bit harder than catching fades over the 5'9 defensive backs at stanford, Michigan St. and Navy. Baseball money is bigger and safer. Plus, like others said, he'll be able to walk when he's done.

Didnt have the build that the NFl looks for in a tight end and I dont think he had the speed to become a good wide receiver.
