http://www.nba.com/games/20070122/GSWLAL/gameinfo.html

Please my friends, let us have a moment of silence to remember that magical game that night in Los Angeles California @ Staples Center when a man by the name of Kobe Bean Bryant dropped 81 points...please, close your eyes and remember your first thoughts you had when you heard the news, where were you when you heard, let's remember my friends, please allow a brief moment of silence to remember that game that shook the world.

They made a special edition pair of Kobe's shoes, only 81 pairs worldwide.
They only come in a size 14 so dont get your hopes up.

Looks like Kobe really likes Jan. 22. I must say, that game was probably the most exciting NBA game I've seen live (too young to remember Jordan's great games, and certainly too young to remember Bird playing, although old videos of those too still give me goosebumps).

Reminds me of a funny story:

Last year, I was taking a Political Science class, and there was a Current Events kind of extra credit, where you were entered into a pool and the professor drew 5 names a class period. If you were called, you had to tell a current news story (Related to American Government of course). A day or so after Kobe dropped 81, my names was called, and here was my Current Event:

"So I dont know if ya'll heard the news, but a few nights ago, Kobe Bryant of the Los Angelas Lakers scored 81 points on the Toronto Raptors..."
"Um, Excuse me, but how is this related to American Government?"
"Im getting there, so he scored 81 on Toronto, which brings me to my point. If Kobe can Score 81 on a Canadian team, how long is it going to be before President Bush invades Toronto because of their lack of Defense?"

Everybody was laughing so hard, that the professor gave me the full ten points possible.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA....yeah.

Bull. Jordan = 6 championhips, Kobe = 3. That is all.

Kobe has a lot of time left in the NBA. Also, Jordan had better plays surrounding him. When did Kobe win his 3? When he had a good player around him, who is no longer good (Shaq).

Once Kobe's career is over, then this is debatable. Until then, Jordan is better... but as of late Kobe is more clutch than anyone in the NBA.

it's funny that for many kobe-haters, if not all, that is their main attack on kobe yet the man himself, the legend who is respected (by me too) Wilt Chamberlain admitted to fucking 1,000's of women, you guys think he was the only one to fuck alot of women? i'm sure he was, Bird, West, Baylor, Jordan, Drexler, Hakeem, etc. etc. didn't touch any girl except their girlfriends :rolleyes: (i'm being sarcastic but i'm sure some of them really didn't)

"Shook the World"?

Whatever.

Born Clarence Francis on 4 September 1932, Bevo Francis went on to become one of the greatest scorers in college basketball history during his career at Rio Grande College. He was 6'9, and was known for his great shooting touch.

In 1953, Bevo averaged 48.3 points a game, which is a NCAA record. This included a record 113 in a single game. He actually averaged 50.1 points per game over the season, but the NCAA excluded some of his best games because they were against lesser competition, such as Junior Colleges. One of the games that did not count during his career, was a 116 point game against Ashland Junior College. In 1954, he averaged 48.0 points a game. He still holds the top two scoring averages in NAIA history, along with many NCAA records.

Bevo Francis and his coach Newt Oliver later signed with Boston Whirlwinds, a barnstorming team that played against the Harlem Globetrotters. He was later drafted by Philadelphia of the NBA but after two seasons of constant travel with the Whirlwinds opted to return home to his wife and family.

Top Scoring Performances:

* 116 vs Ashland Jr College of KY 52-53.
* 113 vs Hillside College 53-54.
* 84 vs Alliance College 53-54.
* 82 vs Bluffton College 53-54.
* 76 vs Lees College 52-53.
* 72 vs California St 52-53.
* 69 vs Wilberforce 52-53.
* 66 vs Mountain St 52-53.
* 64 vs Erie Tech 53-54.
* 63 vs Mayo St 52-53.

Quotes about Bevo Francis:

"At that juncture in history, where he met that fork in the road, Bevo was the greatest shooter in the history of basketball." -William Nack, author and former Sports Illustrated writer on the ESPN documentary on Francis.

"Francis was a great player in his own right. He proved that. He was the (George) Mikan of his time. He would have been a great player at any time.....(After the betting scandals) Bevo brought back some dignity to the sport. He took the sting out of it. He restored it to its place, the way Ruth and Gehrig had done for baseball after the "Black Sox" scandal. He had a unique ability to stimulate the crowds. He mesmerized the country." -Former Villanova University Coach, Alex Severance.

"He was the best player I ever saw. He had a great jump shot. And he had a great ball club along with him. After it{the game} was finally over, I thought I’d just seen the greatest player then alive– college or pro." -Kenny Mast, former Coach Bluffton College.

"Bevo had the finest touch I’ve ever seen." -Ron Shavlik, North Carolina State All-American, 1954

"Bevo was a real fine ball player. He was a pure shooter." -Ned "Dickie" Hemric, Wake Forest All-American. ACC player of the year,1954.

"Francis convinced me. He was a great player. He was an excellent shooter from the floor and was big enough to control the boards. And don’t overlook his playing companions. They were an excellent college team. Bevo was to Rio Grande what Larry Bird was to Indiana State later." -Tony Hinkle, Hall of Fame former Coach, Butler University.

"There wasn't a stiff among them. They could all pass and handle the ball. Bevo could shoot with anyone in the game– even today." -Norm Ellenberger,Butler University,1954 and former head Coach, New Mexico University.

"He was one of those drum-beat stories. You sit by the tree, you hear people talking about the great legends of the game, then you hear people talk about Bevo, yeah," says former Georgetown coach John Thompson about Bevo Francis on ESPN Classic's SportsCentury series.

That right there shook the world. Too bad Wilt Chamberlain takes all the glory.

Shaq > Scotty Pippen.

Everybody else was role-players, so I dont want to hear that MJ had more talent around him. Simply untrue.

You missed the point of my post. If Kobe had of scored 101 points (thus surpassing Wilt Chamberlain's record of 100), he would have shook the world. By falling 20 points short of that epic milestone, he failed to shake the world.

Seriously? You think Kobe is better than Michael?

Sorry bucko, but Michael Jordan is the best. Period. Semicolon. Apostrophe.

If Michael didn't leave for baseball, he woulda most likely taken his team for another championship.

Michael Jordan was one of the best players in the history of basketball. Wilt Chamberlin was also really good. But he had height advantage back then. There are numerous others.

Kobe is good. Really good. He's not great.

i, i'd probably kill myself...but seriously Lakers are number one and depending on the way he goes out, what he says, and what team he goes to, seriously, he can not go to any eastern team, not sacramento, san antonio, dallas, houston, phoenix, utah wait it's easier for me to tell you the one team i'd accept him going to, paper-clips.

Chamberlain took his game to even greater heights in his third season, as he set all-time records which have never been threatened since. In 1961-62, he scored a mind-boggling 50.4 points and grabbed 25.7 rebounds per game — Chamberlain's 4,029 regular-season points making him the first and only player to break the 4,000-point barrier. To place this in perspective the only player other than Chamberlain to break the 3,000-point barrier is Michael Jordan, who scored 3,041 points in the 1986-87 NBA season. Chamberlain once again broke the 2,000 rebound barrier by grabbing 2,052. In addition, he was on the hardwood for an average of an equally mind-boggling 48.5 minutes, playing 3,882 of his team's 3,890 minutes. On March 2, 1962, Chamberlain delivered another incredible performance and became the first player to score 100 points in a single NBA game, in the 169-147 victory of his Warriors against the New York Knicks. To date, none of these records have ever been threatened. His incredible feats in the 1962-63 season were later subject of the book Wilt, 1962 by Gary M. Pomerantz (2005), who used Chamberlain as a metaphor for the uprising of Black America. In addition to Chamberlain's regular season accomplishments, he scored 42 points in the NBA All-Star Game -- still the all-time record -- on 17-23 shooting and pulled down 24 rebounds.
