View Full Version : Should Nets trade Kidd, Carter and Jefferson?

There aren't any rumours going around, but I'll be glad to start one myself. I think it should be considered. I know all three are their best players and without them, they pretty much become a compeltely new team that has to start a fresh. Why I think they should empty house? I'm looking at this from a big picture and their future is in Brooklyn and New York. They aren't going to win an NBA title with Kidd, Carter and Jefferson, so why stick with them as they get older and team gets weaker each progressing year. They are 20-21 and barely in first place, in a very weak Eastern Conference. If they can't get a better record than that, with Kidd playing some of his best ball in Jersey. Carter is still putting up numbers, yet they are still under .500. Also, add to that Jefferson has never become that star player everyone said he was going to be or had potential to be. I see him averaging 20 ppg tops for his career.
They are all valuable players, but when they finally move to New York and into the new Arena (2010 projection), Kidd will be 37, Carter will be 33 and Jefferson 30. I'm not even sure how long their contracts are, but if they are signed until then, that team will have to had signed other stars or have their current rookies emerge as stars for them to be successfull. I would rather them trade their big 3 and get some young quality players. Not prospects, but quality youngsters, from a title contender who are in need of 1 or 2 players to help them win the title. If they could get a young big man from the West, like a Bynum from the Lakers for Kidd, Millsap and Brewer from the Jazz for Jefferson. I don't really know what's out there, but I think they should unload these guys, get younger and build up for 2010, when they move to New York.
Alot of things can happen between now and than, but I think they should make the move while Kidd, Carter and Jefferson are still valuable and you can get real young talent in return. Again, this is with teams in the West (possibly in the East), who are looking for the one extra player they think will help them reach and win the NBA title. The Nets aren't going to win anything in the next 3 or 4 years with this aging group of core players they have. Am I crazy to think the Nets should trade them? Maybe trade one or two of them? Don't trade them at all? What do you guys think?

Not unless they got Jordan AND Pippen. Without Pippen I think the deal is off.

well they suck cause thats ALL they have. i say trade carter and jefferson, keep kid for mentorship/leadership.
get some young guns, and adjust to the weaker divisions, you dont need to be THAT much better to win the atlantic, so improve on your bench, and offensive mindset.

one way or another, i think they should trade carter for some nice blue chips, because he's in a contract year and i dont see him staying with the nets

I agree with you, unless you aren't going to be a championship contender with the pieces in place or are one or two role players away I say build for the future. There's a lot of good young players out there and this draft should be pretty good.

Well, it looks like my rumor has taken a life of its own. The Nets are actively trying to trade both Kidd and Carter. I'd like to take credit for inspiring the decision by the Nets, but I think it is the right way to go about it and Rob Thorn is a smart guy. The talk is of Kidd going to the Lakers, who are interested in him, but don't really have or want to give what the Nets want, so a 3rd time might have to come into play. Also, with Carter, he says he would only want to be traded to the Orlando Magic for some reason. I don't know if he had a no trade clause, but I guess he does since he is asking for that team only. If that's the case, there is talks that the Magic might trade Milicic straight up for Carter, if I'm the Nets I do that trade in a heart beat, but not so with the Magic. If the Magic don't trade Milicic, they would be better off trading Turkoglu and Arroyo for Carter. The Magic need a jumpstart, as they have been falling off as of late. Carter might be a good boost for them. The line up would stand as Jameer Nelson, Grant Hill, Vince Carter, Darko Milicic and Dwight Howard in the starting five. That is a pretty sick team. The Nets would get significantly younger and have talent to boot on their move to the new stadium.

I really doubt Bynum is going anywhere anything soon, he is our future and i think the Lakers know that, he even has a personal coach/mentor, Captain Kareem.

Agreed, they already said they don't plan on trading Kobe, Odom or Bynum, but they still want to get Kidd. That being said, they rumor is they offered Chris Mihm, Kwame Brown and Jordan Farmer for Kidd and I wouldn't make that trade if I'm the Nets. I think they can work something out better if another teams comes into the mix. I think Bynum is going to be a big time player. The Lakers want to do something, because they know they can't go anywhere in the playoffs with this team, but they don't really have bargaining chips either. Caron Butler and Chucky Atkins would have been very helpful right about now.

yes i heard a deal involving Chris Mihm, Smush Parker and i think Kwame Brown. Chris is pretty much forgotten, they never mention him even in the broadcasts, it's sort of sad but i really forgot what the guy brought to the table. :uhoh: i think we're a good above average team overall but the injuries to our main guys has killed us, we're 6th and we're going to stay that way for a bit because of the distance, i know we ain't championship material but we'll be a tough team for any team to face assuming our main guys (Brown, Walton, Odom, Bryant) stay healthy!! :banghead: I liked Caron and was surprised we traded him but i am happy with getting Evans who has been consistent and good overall.

I think that Marcus Williams will be able to fill some of the gap left if they trade Kidd. He's getting old and is no longer the player that could get you to the championship game, but he could still be a great role player who can run the offense and help out on the boards.
They might as well blow the team up though. With Krstic out they don't have much chance of doing anything and they're only getting older.

Trade Williams and Moore with a 1st and 2nd round pick to Minnesota. I mean Rob Babcock is assistant GM there, and Rod Thorn knows a thing or two about getting a team's best player and giving up jack shit in return...
Correlation to Raptors trade of Carter for....nothing except Joey Graham
