Alright, I've been making myself the driver for when going out with friends. We're all 17 and 18, after last weekend of being in a car with an 18 year old drunk female who took an 1/8th of shrooms on back roads thinking it's hilarious to go faster on tight cornerss. I want to be the driver, sober.

Let's say a cop pulls me over for anything, being out at odd hours with a car full of teenagers, a blown tail light, anything.

Now I don't let them keep their drugs in my car, I also will not transport alcohol after everyones been consuming it and I have people in a car with me.

The question is, am I responsible for them being high/drunk in any way? As long as I'm sober? I'm 18, they would be 17 and 18. I would find it complete bullshit to get in major trouble if there's nothing illegal in my car except people that did underage drinking and illegal substances before hand.

Also, can they get in any legal trouble as well? I thought once you consumed it cops can't do shit about it? They aren't operating the vehicle, just fucked up off their ass.

You'll be fine as long as you're not under the influence, just act normal when the cop comes to your window.

If the cop wants to be a dick(which almost never happens when the driver passed his "inspections") then he can give underage drinking ticket to your friends in the car since they're under 21(not sure if you live in US or Canada, Canada is 19).

Tell that girl who thinks it's funny to turn real quick to shove a pickle up her ass, that's fun too.

If you have minors in your car, you can be held liable if they are out past curfew Also, should anything happen, their parents could sue for harboring/endangering a minor.

That's assuming he's over 21.^
I really doubt you would be considered some sort of guardian person if your friend is 17 and you're 18 and driving him around when he's drunk, high, or both. But then again, I have no idea.

I know it sounds corny, but I would ask a cop in person. You can usually find them at gas stations around midnight on weekdays.

In VA you'd be alright except for that fact that the one kid is 17. If he's drunk and you're cruising around with him you'd get a "contributing to the delinquincy of a minor". The 18 year old's responsibility rests in his own hands, tho.

I'm in rainy old England, and we got a lecture about driver responsibility at college. Basically these cops told us that whatever shit goes on in your car, the driver is reponsible.

This means that if there are underrage drunk people in the car, or illegal substances are found in the vehicle then everybody gets in trouble, even the driver as he/she should have made sure all was legit before setting off.

It's a bullshit British thing, I hate this fucking country.
