Who deserves it more?
Only half way through the season but right now no one comes close to MVP except these two, and I think it will stay that way.

Both have been great, I voted Crosby because I went with the homer pick but the both of them are so evenly close it really doesn't matter.

they're both the backbone of their team, and if they went down, it would sink their respective teams.
i picked brodeur, though, partly because the devils are my team, and secondly because the devils are only 8 points away from #1 overall.

yeah what i said didnt make sense. brain fart.
the nhl is dying for support and new change, i say giving it to a 19 year old attracts attention, better for fan support, etc.
i dunno why but i voted Brodeur, tough choice
Luongo ftw

ovechkin....
im no hockey buff (the caps practice literally 4-5 blocks from me), but can anyone explain why crosby gets so much more of the recognition over alexander even though their stats seem pretty close?

Well Crosby is the best player in the league. But it will be a miracle if Pitt even makes the playoffs. Broduer is great and is very valuable to his team, but Pitt woouldnt be shit without Crosby....I voted for Crosby.
Also, Nashville Predators FTW!

I would have to say partially because he is really the only big star on the Penguins team, partially because the Pens went from last place in the league to a current ranking of second in their division (or conference? whichever one is smaller, I can't think of which it is at the moment), and partially because he is the points leader of the league.
Ovechkin is playing in the shadow of others, mainly Jagr, and because of it doesn't get the recognition he deserves. Crosby, however, is in the spotlight because he is the star of the team. I'm thinking that has something to do with it.
EDIT: Benny, don't be surprised. The Pens are a long shot, but their game has been improving since day 1 of this season, and I believe that if they can stay consistent, they've got a shot at a playoff berth. Not a championship, yet, but getting in the playoffs would be huge coming off a losing (and really pathetic) season.

Yes they are 2nd in the Atlantic division at the moment with 54 points but the Rangers and Islanders are right behind them with 52 & 51 points. I hoe they make the playoffs though, it would be a good story among all the relocation BS they have to endure daily.

I would argue that the Pens actually have more stars than the Caps, although still having very little. The only ones that would be known very well are Malkin and Recchi, maybe Gonchar. And I can't really think of any stars that the Caps have. I'm not sure if you meant this, but Jagr doesn't play for the Caps anymore.
However he is dominating the points race, I'd say that's the main reason.
And I agree, I think the Pens have a damn good shot at the playoffs.

crosby has 8 points on the next point leader
hes 19, on a team of pretty young players, and hes canadian.
he rules.

I remember looking at the standings of the Devils a couple of months ago and thinking they weren't doing so hot. Now I go to check Brodeur's stats right now and he's leading in every category. I've been a huge fan ever since their '95 win but have sort of grown apart the last season or so.

I did not know that Jagr wasn't playing for the Caps anymore. I don't pay much attention to any team other than my Pens. :D

jagr's on the rangers - the 'guins division rival..
on a slightly related note, i'm kind of pulling for washington. kolzig is a really underrated keeper, and he never gets anything around him

Kolzig is totally awesome. He'll stand up for his team and beat the shit out of anyone. Always gives his team a chance to win. I wish he would be less discouraged every time he lets in a goal, he lowers the confidence of his team when he gets angry about letting in a goal. He reminds me of Roy a bit.

I voted Brodeur because he brings the Devs to the playoffs year after year, Crosby alone cannot do that. Pittsburg will be lucky if they make they playoffs, only one of thier players has won a stanley cup. Their team is a bunch of kids. Brodeur has the expirience to bring his team to where the need to be.

Crosby hasn't played long enough to bring his team to the Stanley Cup year after year. He's that young, and is that far ahead in points over anybody. Pittsburgh is 4th in the east, and on a 10-0-2 streak including a win over Nashville, it hasn't exactly been luck. I think having only one person who has won a cup and that they're only kids is irrelevant, I don't see what that has to do with Crosby being the MVP.

I voted Crosby. He's an incredible player for his age. Theres one aspect of his game I completely dislike and that is his diving/inmaturity. Like the game the other day against the Canadiens. Off the faceoff he drops to the ice like a limp fish, realizes he doesnt get the penalty then gets right back up again. I know to some players its part of the game but its very disgusting. The talent this guy has, he shouldn't be doing this. Just leave the diving to the Russians.

I agree Crosby at times dives, but in that particular case he was but ended, and I'd like to see you take a shot in the gut like that.
Besides, people always take hard/cheap shots at Crosby all the time because he's young and talented. So in retaliation at times he draws penalties. When you have guys like Blake that blatently spear him in the gut and nothing is called, that's a little motivation for Crosby. Cheap shotting is also part of the game, and ultimately more "disgusting" then diving.

"Goaltending aficionados in Vancouver will scream out for Roberto Luongo, who has satisfied many of the same requirements for MVP that Brodeur has accomplished this season."
that's what i said on page one lol

I know he was "but ended" by a stick, but come on, he drops to the ice like he just broke his neck. Doing that whole limp sliding across the ice move. And believe me, I have taken my fair share of nasty shots, I've been playing competative hockey for 10 years.
I also realize that cheap shotting is part of the game, but thats why we have referees. Obviously sometimes they don't catch every incident, but just keep a little integrity by not collapsing to the ice in "horrible" pain for 8 seconds then get right back up ready to play again. So yes cheap shotting is also a disgusting part of the game, but making yourself look like drama queen by embellishing every missed call is more disgusting.

You should see how many calls he plays through, it's one of his biggest strengths. He'll get hooked, held, slashed, w/e, and keep going full speed and set up a scoring chance before the opponents can control the puck.
Those kinds of embellishments happen rarely.

Well hey, cool. As a7x says, so shall it be done. :D I wasn't going to report him myself, makes me seem like a whiny little bitch. Besides, some noobcake calling my kids ugly is really just water over my back. Uncalled for, yes, but still doesn't really bug me as much as it used to.
