:motz_6: Just gotta go on a bit of a rant here. I am sick and tired of the media and minorities making such a big fucking deal about the fact that Tony Dungy and Lovie Smith are black. WHO CARES??!!?? It wasn't a big deal when Belechick won, when Parcells won, when Lombardi won...so why now? What about all the offensive and defensive coordinators and linebacker coaches and quarterback coaches that were black when their teams won Super Bowls? If minorities want equality, then they need to stop segregating themselves. It's not white people's fault that this is the first time a black man has coached the Super Bowl. In fact, being white, I feel confident that we don't give a shit that either one of them are black. I don't care if they're green, for chrissake.
The media is making a huge spectacle of this. Taking away from the game for the sake of racial exploitation. I saw Kobe Bryant on ESPN today saying what a "huge" thing this is. It's not really that big of a goddamn deal. It is a big deal that Tony Dungy and Lovie Smith and Peyton Manning and Brian Urlacher are playing in their first Super Bowl. That's the big deal. And if there's anyone to blame solely for starting this disgusting headline of the biggest game in sports, it's Lovie Smith. Go read his comments about hoisting the trophy after winning the NFC Championship game. Why is it necessary and who the fuck is he to say some shit like, "I can't wait to be the first black coach to hold up the championship trophy"? What the fuck does that matter, Lovie?
The game isn't about the color of any coach, player or referee or fan. It's about football. The best game that has ever been invented, and the most fun game to watch and play in all of the world. And I am willing to bet that MLK and Malcom X would stand up and say it's not a big deal that the coaches are black. They would want no one to notice that they are black, but that they are coaches. And that is all that really matters. ;)

I ain't mad. Disappointed, yes, but not mad. Whatever. Manning wins his ring and he's 1/3 of the champ that Brady is.

If Manning wins the Super Bowl then not only is he an MVP, but hes a winner. When has Brady ever carried his sorry ass run defence to the playoffs? The only thing Brady has been known for is being "clutch". Oh yea! He was very clutch with 1 min to go with 2 timeouts.... by clutch do they mean a choker?

I hear you it's frigging dumb. Right after the Colts game, first thing they said was about the 2 black coaches. Then the next day I see it on the bottom line on espnews, NFL live talked about it for 5 minutes that night.

I basically agree. Although I dont think it has been a huge deal, it does piss me off a bit that this is treated as some big milestone that will open the door for black coaches.

And the rooney rule, i dont think that has helped much either, saying you have to get a black guy interviewed for the job. Everybody coaching absolutley deserved the job, and to say that a team would forgoe winning a championship because a coach is a minority? Doesnt make sense. Yes, i know its not as simple as that and there are stereotypes, but it would be silly to pass up on a HOF black player as your coach and take a young new white guy who is 35 years old, just because the guy is black.

I completely disagree with you bro, it's a big friggin deal. You mention how they call of equality...well it's the 41st super and it's the first time a black head coach is there...it's a big deal man. The only thing I've heard about it is that everyone is exciting that this has finally happened, I've not heard anyone say how it's a travesty that it's taken this long. It's a huge step towards a level playing field and I have no problem with them making a big deal about this. To everyone bitching...all I can say is boo fucking hoo...get over it. It's a positive thing...quit whining about it, shit.

nobody even knows what racism is anymore, but everyone loves to point it out as much as possible.... it's almost in a way to make themselves look better.

i hate when white people always have these shitty rants like
"why can black people say nigger but i can't"
"why can russel peters make race jokes, but a white man can't"

:motz_6: shut the fuck up and watch football, nobody is gonna point out white statistics because theyre boring.

in south africa they have similar rules to that rooney rule.
but they take it a step further and say that a certain number of black players have to start every game.
caused big damage to their cricket team and not helped their rugby team either.

Yes, it lowers them. They didn't get to the super bowl because they are black, they got there because they are the best this season. By putting race in the picture, it actually makes it look like you have a handicap or something.

I know I have no place posting in an NFL thread bcoz I have no clue or interest in grid iron football..... Theres only one true football (but we wont go into that :bigwink: )

I had to post in here though bcoz I think the first post was so true, I couldnt agree with it more.

Here in the UK we dont get much NFL but when the Super Bowl comes along NFL does get a bit more airtime on sports channels over here.

I was watching skysports news (which is usualy 24 hours of soccer news) and there was a small piece on the Super Bowl and it was going on about how its the first time 2 teams coached by black guys has reached the Super Bowl, I thought to myself why is that the big issue.

Black people need to stop harping on about skin colour and just get on with it, the only time black or white is ever brought up these days is when a black guy is slavering on about it.

Well here in the States in the media its mostly white people slavering on about how great it is, and what a milestone itis etc etc.

If I was black I'll feel very patronised

Yup. But they themselves will deny it by claiming that you called them racist because a white person talked about black people.

If you do not think it is a big deal that two black coaches will coach in the Bowl, dont worry about it then.

I would rather it not be a big deal. That would mean that we, as a society, have progressed to the point where the color of a man's sklin is meaningless. Unfortunately we will never see that in my life time, if ever.

If a minority isn't allowed to celebrate accomplishments then this world fucking sucks. You guys are being completely retarded about this. The fact that this is the first time a black head coach has been to the super bowl simply means that this is an accomplishment for these two men and for their race, that happens to be of a vast minority.

Race will never be meaningless in this country, or any other country that has such a population difference between races, that's just impossible and stupid to belief and want for that matter. Racism and prejudices aside, blacks have in harder in this country simply because they make up such a small percentage of the population. When you make up 12% of the population, things can't technically be equal. You inherently don't have the same chance as a white person to do things, get a job, win a super bowl etc. So hell, mathematically it's worth mentioning, much less racially. It's the 41st super bowl and it's the first time a black man has been the head coach, that's a big deal...get the fuck over it, deal with it.

gatorpatric0
02-02-2007, 12:55 PM
The whole thing is that it should have nothing to do with race.

Its not that there are two black coaches in the Super Bowl...
Its that Tony Dungy and Lovie Smith are in the Super Bowl.

The more we make race an issue, the more it will be one.

It's not being made an "issue", it's being pointed out and celebrated. Nobody is bitching about how it's taken this long and nobody is speaking of injustices. It's like saying nobody should mention the first time others things are done because it isn't important. "Don't talk about how the Red Sox were the first team to come back from 3 games to none, it's not important. It's only important that they won the series." You guys are being fucking stupid here. Pretty much all "firsts" are worth mentioning and many of them should even be celebrated. It's an important event that marks another step towards equality. Along your "logic", guys like Jackie Robinson shouldn't be celebrated. Get over it and quit your bitching, you sound like pathetic whiners who can't deal with these two black men having success and having people celebrate that it's the first time any black men have achieved this level of success at this particular sport.

There are still a lot of people in this country that think that Blacks are intellectually inferior to whites. Obviously I don't think this, nor do some of you, but there's still people that do believe it. That's why people are making this out to be a big deal.
