Does Anyone Race Motocross Here?

I'd really want to look into racing motocross. I've never rode a dirt bike in my life. Any tips on how to get started?

Alright, I can see that this thread is a tad old but I dont care. There arent enough dirtbiking threads on this forum.

I race motocross and harescrambles.

The first thing you have to realize is that you arent just going to get on a bike and start flying around a track in 5th gear clearing all the jumps. Motocross is an aquired skill and is highly demanding physically.

If you wish to start off, I suggest that first you go and rent a bike and get some lessons at a local track. They will probably have a practice track for you to learn on. If you decide you want to continue after the lessons, then maybe go out and buy yourself a bike. Start with something cheap to learn on, dont go and blow your money on an 07 CRF 450 or something stupid like that, because you will be unable to handle it nor will you be able to use it to its fullest. Just buy a bike that is a few years old, like an 03 or 04 125. As your skills progress, move up to a more advanced bike. Also, make sure you have all the required equipment too.

actually, motocross bikes do not have keys. they generally have kick-starters (excepting the 07 ktm 4 strokes which have electric start)

My Mate used to do it, got to clever once and came off. Smashed his collarbone!! ouch!!
