Sell it and buy a handheld designed for the purpose. What do you want to homebrew for?

for your psp i would downgrade to 1.5 and then upgrade to 3.03oe-c dont get that confused with normal 3.03 though. Homebrew is currently possible for your firmware just very limited. I recommend going to pspupdates.com forums where there is tons of tutorials and people to help you out even more. With the 3.03oe-c firmware, it allows you to play all up to date games, all homebrew, customize menus/fonts, play ISO's(downloaded games) from the menu, and much much more. It is a custom firmware made by dark_alex and it is safe to do as long as you follow the instructions.

Check your UMD drive to see whether or not you have a TA-082 motherboard. Then, you'll need either the special TA-082 downgrader or the 2.71 Generic Downgrader, along with the 1.5 firmware update, and HEN-D (Homebrew ENabler). Use the readmes, run the downgrader, then upgrade to Dark Alex's 3.10 0E-A (which you'll need the 3.10 update for as well).
You'll get complete PS1 Emulation (use any ISO and convert it) and the latest compatibility with homebrew and regular PSP games this way.
And to the dumbass who suggested getting another handheld for this, the GP2X has nowhere near the amount homebrew development that the PSP has, shut the fuck up. Btw, N64 emulation is getting a big update this month.
EDIT:
Here's a guide.

How do you work that one out? The GP2X is a homebrew machine, that's what it was designed for.

I'm saying the emulation on the PSP is much more developed.
And you know this how? The only emu I know the PSP can do over the GP2X is PS1. We could compare penises and wrtite lists, but trust me the GP2X came out before the PSP, it is Linux based and is thus well supported in terms of Emus and other stuff.

Alright now that you are on 1.5 you might as well go to 3.03oe-c. 1.5 gives you all the homebrew features but it doesnt let you play the newer games with higher required firmwares. With 3.03oe-c you can play homebrew from the menu, load downloaded games and play any games from any firmware. Also, the only way you are gonna be able to get psx iso's is to go to 3.03oe-c. Make sure not to go the 3.10oe though because it cant use custom icons.

I bought a PSP in March 2006, and don't really use it too much for anything anymore. It's firmware rev. 3.03. Any suggestions on what the fuck I can do with it so I can run homebrew shit?
I've done quite a bit of reading, but I can't really find anything solid, or step by step that shows me how.
Thanks if you can.

ZX-6RR if you have a copy of an unpatched GTA LCS then you can downgrade but 3.03 is the highest firmware possible to downgrade from right now so dont upgrade. And to satan, the guy who made the emulator is coming out witha new revision soon with full speed on most games and hoepfully sound.

Wow, I just did an eBay search for GTA LCS unpatched, and I'm seeing shit for like $100 +.
Nice tutorial by the way. Bookmarked for when I need it. Thanks a lot.

Allright, I wasn't actually joking in my response. I had been following the psp homebrew stuff very closely about half a year ago, and pretty much everyone was saying "Once you go past 2.0, you can't go back." So everyone was pretty certain that when it comes to homebrew stuff you're pretty much fucked if you've got version 2.01 or higher. So, naturally, i'm pretty excited that i'm finally able to do shit.

I'm trying, but I'm having trouble downgrading from 2.8 to 1.5. I know it's possible, it's just the when I try to do the tutorial listed on the first page with the easy 2.8 downgrader, it says "The game cannot be run" when I try and click on the eboot.

I am king of psp homebrew, even on any version.
First get the eboot eloader (download it) for the specific version of psp u have. Then make a folder called GAME in the "psp " folder on the psp.
Follow the readme included with the eloader.

If you've bricked ur PSP you can get Mod-chips for them that un-brick them, search on google and on the PSP forums for them.
And BTW PSP with 3.03 custom firmware ROCKS! I can play all my old PSX games on the move and all my mates have been more than happy to lend me their old games, Tekken 3 never looked so good!

Al Paccioli
02-24-2007, 03:58 PM
Just download PSX2PSP from the maxconsole forums, and you'll also need to torrent the Hot Shots 2 converted game to get it's eboot.pbp, which you'll rename to "BASE.PBP" and place in the "files" folder of PSX2PSP. Then just get any PS1 iso and you can convert it to a psp playable format, and you can also use custom images if you want. Google "popstation imagepacks" for those.
SatanTheSith
02-24-2007, 04:03 PM
does the hot shots 2 take up alot of space, because I only have a 1 gig stick
Al Paccioli
02-24-2007, 04:21 PM
No, you're going to use the hot shots 2 to put it in the PSX2PSP program, which is going to act as a converter to turn a ps1 iso into a psp eboot. The program uses the data in the eboot from the already converted hot shots 2 eboot (it comes from a PS3 download from the online store) to create new eboots from regular ps1 isos.

DON'T BOTHER WITH PSX2PSP !!!!
Use ICETEA, its 9999999999 x 10 to the power of 999999999 better.
All you have to do is this:
Download Icetea from here
http://dl.qj.net/IceTea-v1.1-PSP-Homebrew-Applications/pg/12/fid/12484/catid/151
Insert PS1 game into CD drive
Use Alcohol 120% (or get it of Pirate Bay if u don't have it)
Use the "Image Making Wizard" on the left handside of the window.
Select your CD drive and select at the bottom left "Datatype: Playstation"
Click next, after that select a place to save it and make sure the image type is CloneCD image "ccd".
click next again, now for something that is going to save you MANY headaches later on:
Create a new folder on your desktop and name its something like eg"PS1 Tekken 3 for PSP" so you don't forget.
Now, boot up Icetea and for the PSX Image type-in or select where your newly made ISO is.
Select Best Compression (It saves you alot of space and it still only takes 2 mins to make the PSP image)
For the thing where it asks you for the Game ID on the Jewel Case, that can be found on your PS1 Game CD (SLPS 00123 etc), but I also think you might be able to make one up if you don't have it.
Enter the proper game title eg "Tekken 3" not "Tekken 3 PSP ISO PS1 GAME"
Now For the output directory choose the Folder you just made on the desktop, our example was "PS1 Tekken 3 for PSP". Please don't put anything else in that folder other that what IceTea create's.
Hit the "Let's go" button and wait 1-3 mins depending on the game.
Once thats done, connect your newly upgraded PSP running at least 3.03 OE-C open up its directory, go PSP-> Game and move your folder with the IceTea Image to there.
Disconnect and go to Games -> Memory Card -> And select your game!!
Enjoy!!!
And I also have a 1 GiG stick just like you, on average most games are around 380 Megabytes in size using best compression, smallest Iso I have is 300 megs (Azure Dreams), and biggest is Tekken 3 with 470 megs.
So you can fit 2 games easily with room left over for music etc or you are lucky and have 3 games that are all around 300 megs in size in witch case you can just fit them on.
PS: Oh and PS1 games look AWESOME on the PSP because of the smaller screen, and there is also a small issue with some games where the screen actually sit's lower that the center of the PSP screen, to fix this you have to use the options menu in the game and see if you can adjust the screen in there (set ithe screen as high as you can and as far left as possible).
Once you've done the above, use Home button do display a small menu use the Screen Size option and select the one that is best for you.
Tekken 3 Example:
Stock screen: http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/5111/tsmalldj0.jpg
Home Menu: http://img92.imageshack.us/img92/5461/tmenujz2.jpg
Screen after adjustments: http://img92.imageshack.us/img92/1029/tbigcu8.jpg
Hope you found that helpfull!
