I'm not much of a sports buff but a friend of mine got into a flamewar with a local bartender. He argues that the Cubs have a lot of new players even though they paid premiums to get them on the team. I thought Cubs sucked, I was there to watch a game score going from something like 5-3 to 5-11 and that was just horrible.

But yeah, how well do you think they'll do this season? Better than the past hopefully.

They will win some games, but they will also lose some games. Their final record will consist of both wins and losses, and possible a tie. So to answer the question posed in the title of this thread, which was "Sooooo....think the Cubs will win this season?", yes, the Cobs will win at least once this season.

cubs wont make the post season, if that is what your asking. the only really credible player they picked up was alfonso soriano, but he wont make enough of a difference.

but as is the case with the cubs for the past years, will Prior and Wood do ANYTHING, my answer is no. and its getting to the point where they just arnt good players anymore.

sub .500 at best, love the cubs, but not this year, unless they play great and are HEALTHY all year, which they never are

Cubs have a good offense. Pitching sucks, though. They won't make the playoffs.

Yep. The Reds will win the division and the World Series. This will happen because I believe it will happen.

That has as much chance of happening as the American natives had of sending the white guys back to Europe.

sub .500 at best?

then whats at worst?

but yea, if they stay healthy, they got a pretty damn good team, soriano, aram, and d. lee to anchor the lineup with 1 great pitcher and 2 guys who used to be good. That probably wont happen.
i have nothing against the cubs, i like them and they should get around 80 wins i think

Soriano will probably put up some amazing numbers at Wrigley Field, but if that translates to the Cubs making the playoffs is a mystery. Their problems recently have been the starting line up and keeping arms healthy.

(Talk about the most generalized and useless question and answer tandem ever)

I think the Cubs have an excellent chance of winning 90 games. However, I think they also have an excellent chance of losing 90 games.

It all depends on injuries. Will Prior and Wood finally figure out how to protect themselves?

Hopefully, yes.

Probably not.

with the cubs being in the NL Central anything could happen. I love the cubs and if they can stay healthy im going to say they have a good shot at the post season.

I have good faith the Cubs will make it to the post season, what they do there is still unknown. Soriano is an excellent addition because he eats up regular season pitching, but when the playoffs come around he isnt nearly as good. Also D. Lee is healthy again, Ramirez is healthy, Prior looks good, and Zambrano might win the Cy Young award this year.

Prior has a great career ahead of him, Wood is not looking to good. He will most likely stay on the Dl alot this season and when he does com back he will be in the Bullpen. The reason that they have always been injured is the fact that Baker overused them. He never gave them enough time to recover. With Piniella they will do fine.

Their pitching is mediocre but in the infield we have a couple Gold Glovers and the Outfield doesnt look to bad either. I think this isnt the year for the Cubs because it is a transition year( New Coach, New Players) but i think they will be a fierce contender in the next years. I think they win their division because they some how always manage to win over the Cards and if they dont win they will win the Wild Card.

i dont know if prior will ever be good again. Did you see him last year when he came of the DL? 1-6 with like a 7+ ERA. i dont know if he was still having some residual injury affects or not, but still that is really bad.

im a cub fan and ive even lost hope in mark prior, I don;t think he will ever be dominating again like he was in 03. Its sad i know, but i just can't see him being that good again.

Health is the number 1 priority this year.
Last year, the Cubs had a great start, then Lee got hurt, then the offense decided to not hit anything, and the pitching, well, everybody knows Wood and Prior's problems by now.
A healthy Cubs team could have a shot at the playoffs, but once again, every year people say that and what happens? Shit hits the fan. So I'm definitely not optimistic.

Count On Losing The Superbowl

what happened then? You dont know SHIT about any sport until you see the teams play, maybe the busy offseason will payoff maybe it wont... we will just have to wait.

i also remember that the cubs are notorious for sucking balls when it matters. they had one of the highest payrolls last year as well and they still sucked.

btw...who actually thought da bears would win? not i sir, and not most of america. the bears and cubs can suck my left nut.

I think, if Prior makes a full recovery and manages to stay healthy (and he's doing ok in Spring Training....he did pretty well yesterday..with a few walks).

Kerry Wood is a nightmare. I think Cubs management are the only people in the world that haven't given up on this guy. The Cubs motto should be "Kerry Wood: Could be great if he was healthy 5 days in a row"

The Cubs need to look at their bullpen...that could be where things fall apart. But, it should be interesting to see.

I love Soriano, I wanted him for my team (the Orioles, don't mock). But, I think the price tag he carried was insane. He hits like crazy, and will eat up national league pitching. I think they have a good chance of a Wild Card...if they don't have any major injuries and pitching holds up.

The Cubs are the worst team in the history of sports. I hope they lose every game.

The worst team in the history of sports? Or, the team with the longest streak of not winning a championship.

They just need to appease the goat (look up baseball lore if you don't get that).

As for your website, it was interesting. The Yankees actually bought their team from the Baltimore Orioles for about $20,000 (which then became the Highlanders, then the Yankees in 1912)...as I'm sure ever Yankee fan knows by heart. As I always love to tease my Yankee friends....you wouldn't be who you were today, if you had not stole our original Baltimore Oriole team.
