View Full Version : Dunk Competition

I think that the right person won the dunk competition but not the right people were in the finals.
They give Nate Robinson too much credit for being short. His dunks are not spectacular and they are not even original. The guy who put the sticker on the backboard should have been in the finals instead of Nate Robinson.
In the end the right man won but not against the right competition.

I just think it's bullshit how Nate Robinson bores everyone for 15 minutes while he gets to attempt his dunks 3 million times. There should be a time limit or something, he takes forever to make one.
Good contest though, I heard Green wanted to kiss the rim and windmill but wasn't allowed or something... I don't know, hear dit on ESPN. That would abeen cool.

How the fuck can they not allow an athlete to do a dunk? They let them get props and what not, why cant they just do what they want?

That's what I say. Stern wouldn't allow it I guess...They were tlaking about it on espn last night. They won't allow certain dunks.

If my boy Wade and LeBron would only do the Dunk contest but I guess they fear losing their "marketability" and "value". Damn those two. We need stars to do the dunk to really bring it back.

Yea. Basically all they have competing now are nobodys trying to make a name for themselves.
LeBron, Wade, Kobe, and Vince Carter need to stop being such pussies and just go out there and do it.
They have a better chance at getting injured in the actual All-Star Game

I thought the Dwight Howard Sticker-Dunk was the best of the night.
Overall, I was disappointed. (Other than Dwight's Dunk) The Entire night lacked originality.
I was very disappointed.

He may not be a nobody but he is definitely not a household name.

I disagree. Dwight Howard is a star, and is one of the ten best players in the NBA. I feel he is a household name.
On the other hand, I just asked my two roommates if they know who he is (They dont follow Sports), and they had no idea.

Given that I don't follow basketball as much as I have in past years and I have only heard his name once or twice on Sportscenter I must give you the benefit of the doubt.
He may very well be one of the top ten in the league as of now but I just haven't seen it.
In my eyes he has not made it to household name status mainly because of his lack of time in the NBA. I have no doubt that given time he will develop into a star.

Dwight howard is crazy... Most athletic guy in basketball IMO
And yes the contest was gay, robinsons dunks were average at best he just got through because hes short

His argument was:
The stars have a better chance injuring themselves in the actual All-Star game than they do in the Dunk Contest, so they should do the Dunk Contest instead of the All-Star Game.
Saying 'they are not allowed to be in it' doesn't make sense, becuase they have less of a chance injuring themselves in the Dunk Contest.

Lol. I love Dwight Howard and I think in 2 years, he'll be like Shaq was 8 years ago...an unstoppable monster. If you really followed the NBA, you'd know that Dwight is no where near one of the 10 best players right now. Shaq isn't one of the 10 best right now but he's a household name. It Dwight was a household name, he would've been voted into the All-Star game. Dwight may be a monster but he's not one of the 10 best nor is he close to a household name. Here's my top 10 today(in no particular order), who would you take out to put in Dwight?
Kobe Bryant
Dwyane Wade
LeBron James
Dirk Nowitzki
Gilbert Arena
Kevin Garnett
Tim Duncan
Steve Nash
Allen Iverson
Elton Brand
Here's the 11-20 (in no particular order)
Jason Kidd
Paul Pierce
Vince Carter
Carmelo Anthony
Shaquille O'Neal
Amare Stoudemire
Shawn Marion
Tracy McGrady
Yao Ming
Pau Gasol
Btw, these 20 guys listed above are bigger household names right now than Dwight Howard and are better players than Dwight Howard.

What a freaking loser. You put it in bold and you still can't read it. If Dwight was a household name, he would've been VOTED into the All-Star game. So, when was he VOTED in? Last I remember, Shaq was voted in as the starter by the fans and Howard was picked by the coaches as an All-Star reserve. Now you STFU>FO:wave:

What I was saying was:
They CANT be in in the contest, becuase you cant be in it if you've been in the leauge for more then 3 years, which is why its always rookies and sophmores.

Hmn...you should have made that point more apparent. You would have caught less flak from me.
But to be honest, If Kobe, LeBron and DWade wanted to be in the Dunk Contest, the NBA would change the 'rules' and they would be in. The ratings would be spectacular for the Dunk Contest if they were in it.

I think LeBron could do it because he's endorsed by Sprite and so is the contest but LeBron is afraid of losing his "marketability" and "dunking mystique".

Very true. Might apply to all superstars. If they dont deliver in the dunk contest their marketability drops and popularity goes down.

I remember LeBron's high school dunk contest and I doubt he would embarrass himself. I think the only reason he isn't doing it is because he doesn't need to. What would happen if he won? Would have be doing commercials and have one of the best selling jersey's in the NBA? He already has that. It's the same way with all the other stars, they have nothing to gain.
Edit: Here's the high school dunk contest. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIQDG9YbLMc

Yeah - I agree with that one guy. Dwight Howard is not in the top 10 players. But he is a top 5 center. I'd rather have Yao Ming start at center than Howard. Personal opinion though.
Yeah sticker dunk was good, but the first one Nate did was pretty nice. All of Green's were good though.

Most disappointing dunk contest ever?
Nate Robinson has no creativity and he gets way too much credit for being small. Last year Andre Igoudala did two dunks that were probably top 5 all-time and they gave it to Nate :(
The rookie/sophmore thing is a copout because the big name guys just arent interested. Someone needs to save the dunk contest like Vince Carter did in 2000 or they need to just get rid of it I think.
