Wesely Snipes I know is around a 5th or 6th dan black belt.
Chuck Norris is up around there too.
Jet Li is obviously a 5th dan or more since he was taught it since he was 9.
I've heard that Steven Segal was a martial artist but I'm not too sure about that.
Anybody know?
I also wanted to comment on Jet Li's fighting style.
In "kiss of the dragon" he seems to use his fists more at first and then when it gets more brutal he seems to switch to legs as a major weapon.
I thought, when I saw the film, that almost anybody would be able to distinguish a accomplished martial artist in him because of his non-show off way of fighting even though I know it was actually the martial arts director that told him what to do, but still.(. He didn't kick a chair out of the air, thus wasting energy, like Dias did in "charlies angels".
And he almost always dodged to the side or backwards and conserved alot of energy. he also exploited their weak points, took advantage gravity when he smashed the shorter german dude into the floor head first, and uses the opponents weight against him.
And I admire also, the way he evaded the cops in kiss of the dragon. I'd say jet li there, is the way real CIA, and FBI operatives should be. But of course it takes at least 38 years (at the least) to reach the master level, and that is if you had started martial arts training before you were 11.

two words: Donnie Yen...if you don't know about him...you should...dude kicks major ass all over the place...but, he is happy enough staying out of the limelight to choreograph fight scenes...don't ask me why

Thats cool. I really thought that Blade2 had some of the best and most creative martial arts I have ever seen. Especially the plank scene where he faces off with nomac.
And back flipping onto a motor cycle is too cool.
Both blade films I think were very good vampire films.
It portrayed them like actual civilized people, not like films like Dracula 2000.

Yeah he does, he even broke his foot in one movie, but he put a cast on, painted it to match his shoe, and went back to shooting the scene. Now that is some dedication.

Steven Seagal lived in Japan doing martial arts for a while, and then I think he was in the CIA. Jackie Chan and Jet Li and freakin amazing in their own ways, as is Michelle Yeuo (sp?). That dude from Iron Monkey is in a class by himself....you were referring to the doctor, right Kan??

Seagal is a punk bitch...blech...my friend in Orange County belongs to the firm that is representing him in his case...he's a joke
actually, Jackie had his beginnings as a ballet performer; they old timey (bruce lee era) movies employed ballet dancers as all the moves were choreographed.
another fun Jackie fact...Jackie had his neck broken (not actually) by Bruce Lee in the move, "Enter The Dragon"....

Dammit i thought i posted here. Oh well, i think Jackie Chan would win, because it looks to me that hes got more muscle than the Jet guy. And personally, i think he is more original.
Edit: I did post in a different thread that looked like this one. Sorry.

It is hard to tell, I would agree though, Jackie Chan might win since he is older and is a Master Black belt ( he made his own style) so I guess he has quite a bit more experience than Jet Li.
Nevertheless, the difference wouldn't lie in muscle but in the quickness of his reflexes, ability to conserve stamina during a fight and ability to adapt to another person's style. Although in a way it would lie in muscle because to be able to kick 35 feet/sec
and punch around 25/sec, you would have well toned muscles but it would primarily be the refined reflexes.

Steven Seagal is most certainly NOT a 'punk' and calling kung fu 'crap fu' merely shows your ignorance of martial arts. Oh and btw...Steven is a black belt Master in Aikido with his own Dojo. Think you're all that and a bag of chips? Obviously, you aren't half as bad as you think you are so I suggest you go study Martial Arts before you put down a great man.

True. There are lots of misconceptions about Seagal, but he's a pretty good Aikidoka actually. I got a chance to train with a few of his students in an Aikido seminar a while back, they're into the harder, more combat oriented side of Aikido.

Still doesn't excuse his awful acting.

Yeah Jet Li won a lot of competitions when he was a kid so he's definitely the real deal. Jackie Chan in his prime was a force to be reckoned with too.

Steven Seagal... Wasn't he the first American to have an Akido dojo in Japan? Either way, he's legit.
Van Damme though, different story. The guy is a ballet dancer, I believe, not a martial artist. To be fair to Van Damme, he did get punched out by a former Hell's Angel not just "some bodyguard". Now had it been a different normal guy, then sure. Still doesn't change the fact that he sucks lol

Tony Jaa The guy from Ong Bak. Theres a video of him floating around here somewhere of him kicking a board something like 10 feet in the air. He's a master of Mui Tai and he's freaking Unbeliveable.

 That's true too. He may be able to fight well, but his acting and movies are still kind of bland and forgettable.
Then of course, you have Jet Li, Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee who are ("were" in Bruce's case) very good actors as well as accomplished martial artists.
And then there is... Chuck Norris. The most brilliant acting and screenplay writing I have ever seen. Not to mention incredible action-laced movies like Delta Force 2 and Walker Texas Ranger 3: Deadly Reunion.

Cynthia Rothrock AKA China O'Brien would probably mop the floor with most of those mentioned, shes hard as fuck and was the inspiration for the Mortal Kombat character Sonja Blade.

Stephen Chow. Lol well i know his moves are completely fake but that doesnt stop them from being kickass hilarious movies.
The best actor that is a martial artists in my opinion is Jackie Chan. His movies are funny and the stunts are simply amazing (mind you im talking about OLD jackie chan movies). Its too bad hes getting terrible roles in American movies, its really a shame because he wants to be in different types of movies like dramatic movies but he gets placed into stupid movies like "The Tuxedo". I mean let the man be in a serious movie for once.
