View Full Version : Epic Songs

This is a slightly drunken post but anyway.
Meatloaf (is it one word or two?). Anyway I always used to think he was some Opera type faggot. Well I've just been listening to "I would do Anything for Love" four times in a row (nearly an hour) and I have completely changed my view on him. I know that this is one of his most recognised songs but fuck me it is a masterpiece. I love it when I am proven wrong by an artist and this is up there with Guns N' Roses and Lynyrd Skynryrd (who I am now massive fans of).
The basis of this thread is to A) grovel at the feet of Metaloaf for some fucking amazing songs and:
B) What other "epic" songs are there? They might be by artists you have always liked, have recently discovered or artists you have changed your mind about after listening to their songs. Please contribute to this thread with whatever suggestions you have.
So far the one's I have come across in the past couple of years are and are good to chill out to are:
Lynyrd Skynryd - Free Bird (Long Version)
Meatloaf - Bat out of hell (long)
Meatloaf - I Would do Anything for Love (love)
Metallica - One (I was never keen on it at first)
Guns N' Roses - Coma (fantastic)
Now your turn.

Guns - November Rain
Estranged
Iron Butterfly - In A Gadda Da Vida
Really tho, Metallica "One" is the only true answer.

I used never to like Opeth, but their song 'Reverie/Harlequin Forest' really got me into them.

Led Zeppelin - Achille's Last Stand
Marillion - Interior Lulu, Ocean Cloud
Transatlantic - Stranger in your soul
Pink Floyd - Dogs
All pretty epic songs. And probably my favorite songs pushing 10 minutes or over 10 minutes. Great composition in all of them. Some nice time changes in quite a few, and very noticeable changes in the music over the course of the song, just so it doesn't get boring.

Hey Canty, I agree with you on Skynryd and Metallica, but the Loaf? And of all songs "I would do Anything for Love"? I hate that song more than I hate bleeding.

I'm gonna have to agree with Achilles Last Stand, but I think Carouselambra by Led Zeppelin is an epic song that doesn't get enough credit.
I think the Odyssey by Symphony X and Octavarium by Dream Theater are some pretty epic songs as well.
