OMG! Starcraft Brood War is definitely one of my ALL TIME favorite games. I can not be anymore of a fanboy. Seriously... I love everything about it. From the actual gameplay to the music to the overall atmosphere of the game. Its definitely a game I will ALWAYS have in my collection of entertainment. Unfortunately, I'm being starved of it since my OS crahsed and my CD player broke... I had to whipe the slate clean and install all I could from floppy, whilst barrowing a CD rom for the essentials. Unfortunately Starcraft didn't make it, nor would I have a way to play it even if it were installed. So it sits on my desk... feeling left out. lmao

As far as any online gaming goes, I played a few times. My first attempts I was quickly rushed with SVCs and destroyed. And then once I actually got to play, and developed quite an army. It was like a 3 hour game. However I was whiped out rather easily by all kinds of nukes. I got teamed up against. Never played online since then.

Yeah man! Use Map Settings is a type of game for maps where people basically take the StarCraft editor (where you make your own maps) and create their own games. You can access it when you log onto Battle.net and go into the games list. There should be a drop down menu (click on the arrow) and you can click on "Use Map Settings."

To give you some examples, there are games called Bounds, where obstacles are created that you have to dodge. Like a line of Infested Terrans will continually explode and you (along with 5 others on your 'team') control Zerglings. You'll have to click at the right moment to pass through the line of Infested Terrans without getting blown up. Things like that.

Observer games are like dodging. There's a shitload of Observers all over the map. You (and 5 others) have to control your units and get from one side of the map to the other without touching the Observers (if you touch them, you turn into a flag and the only way to move again is if a teammate stands next to you flag so you'll be revived).

As mentioned above, there's Lord of the Rings-type games (where characters are renamed to be Orcs, main characters from the movie/book, other enemies); Scream/The Thing games, where one of eight players is chosen at random to be the killer and they must kill all the other seven players before he/she is discovered to be the killer; and Turret Defense (where each player must build Turrets and stop flying enemies from getting from one end of the map to the other).

There's many more than that as I haven't played in the last 8 months, but it's great fun, man! Hope you try it sometime! I was addicted to it for years! Gonna play again when I get back home next month.

Lol, that happened to me all the time when i first started playing. I'd play a four on four just to fuck around and we'd get down to one enemy team left, then all of a sudden 3 nukes get launched onto my base thanks to my next door "ally".

OMG so many memories. I'd still play it but I lost my cd key so I can't play on Bnet. UMS games were da bomb. The best I can remember was helms deep, WWII in Europe (forgot the official name), the Normandy Invasion, and I think there was this other map called "haunted hotel" or "zombie hotel"... something like that it was so kickass. Melee games were fun though too. I loved playing on that one custom map with the vespine and minerals touching your base. 7vs1 comp stomp was fun too. The best thing to do is turn off allied victory but still stay allied. Everybody assumes it is the strongest person that isn't allied and then they all backstab him and they you re ally.

back stabbing was awsome, me and my friend use to join 7vs1 comp stomps and unally victory so everyone was bitching and wondering whos going to BS then we kill dem, most disconnect using hacks, but they all bitch. we use to take screenshots and lol all day long

I think I don't replay Startcraft as much because I played it more back in the day and I find new RTS's a lot better like Age of Empires 2/3 and Warhammer 40k.

Also, Diablo takes some skill after a certain point.

Damn...now I'm seriously considering buying this game again, with broodwars.
UMS games were the best, and so memorable. I used to make classic Sniper maps in my free time, they got to circulating on Bnet for quite a while, good stuff! Gotta say, my favorite Use Map Settings games were Lurker Defense 8(?) I think that was the version, and any well-balanced Sniper game, using Terran Ghosts as the snipers.

HAHAHAHAHHA! That was really good (and surprisingly accurate)! Me and two of my friends would do 2v2, and then simply rush the 3rd guy about 3 minutes in. Good way to get wins lol. Use Map Settings or whatever was fucking awesome. All the games... especially the obstacles. I remember getting this cheat that unlocked the obstacle map so you could see what the password was. Pretty awesome.

Then the creator found out I cheated. And I got kicked out of this clan. That was fucking funny as hell. Haha.
