Well actually, Sonic the Hedgehog is the first game I ever played, i'm extremely fond of the Green Hill Zone and Marble Zone (The music from the Marble Zone is in my top 3 favorite game tunes ever), I think Mario (and all the characters in the Mario games) is a better game character, since they're alot more original than a blue animal and robotic bees/raccoons and shit.

Plus the Sonic games have sucked very very badly for the past 10 years or so (never played the dreamcast games).

in a fight, unless mario decided to be some pussy bastard and hit a bunch of question marks and get powerups, sonic would kill him. if it was one on one in a room, and sonic had about 10 rings, even if mario had fire balls there is no contest. Sonic would spin all over marios face until he shot fireballs out his ass

Marios games (up to mario 64) weren't clever at all. heres the game run...hit question mark get coin...run...get mushroom...run... kill mushroom... go down pipe.... ect. Sonics were insane craziness all the time. Spin...go thru huge fucking loop followed by a claustrophobic tunnel until shot out... land.. hit tree get a fucking tv with rings or something it it... jump back and forth off a wall to get to top of cliff... jump on bat... kill the fucking fat guy on a hovercraft throwing shit at you... ect. its just such a better and more creative game.

Mario was slow and redundant. Sonic was fast or if you wanted you could methodically go through and find all the secret stuff.

tunnles, ramps, springs, and all kinds of creative obsticles made Sonic a more unique and interesting game. Straight up.
