View Full Version : The worst day ever...

My truck has let me down on one of the days I needed it the most..
Obviously I need it the most on days I have to work. Fridays especially, I work at Pizza Hut and it gets mad busy, EVERYONE works on Fridays.
I left the school, made it not even 1/4 of a mile... CLUNK! goes the motor. Snapped the timing belt, the one connecting the crank and the cam....... My friend's dad comes out there, the only one that can help me, and tried to pull it with his Taurus. He had something go wrong on it the day before and it kept cutting off. So we made it about a mile. Then we decided to go get someone's truck. My uncle went out of town and left his here, but took the keys. No one else has a truck we can use.
My truck is sitting close to my school in front of a little old lady's house, waiting for me to somehow get it back here tonight. Hopefully that old lady tried to keep anyone from towing it... But it makes me mad that I missed work, I run the cut table. My friend is gonna come by and help me in a little while, I just hope its there still.
Tomorrow I gotta go get a new belt, retime the cam and crank together... not fun. If my bastard uncle left his keys, I wouldn't have to worry about it.

The good news is timing belts on 2.3s are easy, I can do one in about 2 hours. Change the water pump while you are in there, it is cheap insurance.

Eh, im sure it will be a complete pain in my ass....
One fucking thing breaks... ruins my entire weekend. Sure I didn't have anything planned, but I didn't want to end up getting pissed off because of a rubber strip....

Yea I actually found a good article on RangerPowerSports on how to re-time everything. Should take me a couple hours with the help of my dad.
I already got the truck back to my house finally lol. Just got to wait for my dad to come back into town tomorrow so we can make a parts run. If I had the money, this would be a good time to get a better cam to give me some extra power. :)

And boy is it, my friend's just went bad his little Toyota car, but he values it so little he just never replaced it and is without a car at the moment.

I think he'd be better off with a full Terminator drivetrain. After all, its only $800 for parts and installation.

And boy is it, my friend's just went bad his little Toyota car, but he values it so little he just never replaced it and is without a car at the moment.Toyotas have a habit of seizing their water pump and eating the timing belt, I fixed one for a friend and I've seen about 4 others that did the exact same thing. I'm waiting for someone to sell one dirt cheap that says it has a "blown motor", $300 in parts and I could have it going again, then I can drive it till it really blows.

Well alot of cars have timing chains connecting the crank and cam. Thats usually behind a little cover. Then they have the belt connecting the crank and all the stuff like A/C, PS, all that junk.
My truck has a belt for the PS, Heat, WaterPump, so on. And instead of a chain, it has a belt. Usually the chains wont break, which is why if my mom snaps a belt, you just replace it. If I snap the timing belt, I got to re-time everything.

If I snap the timing belt, I got to re-time everything. You say that like it is a major deal, you're lining up a couple marks, it isn't hard or even time consuming.
Also, Darc was asking which timing belt you could have broken besides the one connecting the crank and cam, there isn't any, the others are accessory belts.

Well thanks for the correction. My dad always called my mom's a timing belt...
But yea, I found a diagram of where to line up the marks so it shouldn't be too hard. If the accessory belt broke I would have just bummed a ride to AutoZone and put it on where it broke down... I wish.

Nah man, that's only if you have the hookup via your friend's girlfriend's best friend's 2nd cousin's grandma's niece's boyfriend's uncle.
