I'm interested in picking up an old Volvo (early 90's). I have heard these cars can last forever. I don't know much about the different models are there any pros/cons of the different models. I have about 2-3K Canadian dollars to spend

the only old volvo i know anything about is the 240 DL and they are fuckin tanks, i would say go for it. they are fun as hell in the snow too.

All older Volvos are fucking tanks (turbo bricks). Ever try punching the sheetmetal of one? OUCH my fucking fist cracked...now, go up to a Cavalier or a Honda and do the same thing...now RUN before the owner makes you pay for the damages!
Any turbo Volvo would be more than suffice and it'll be a lot of fun....explaining to the cops why you smashed your street racer volvo into some grandma on her way to the Walgreen's pharmacy.

The older volvos are awesome. Plus they are better than the newer ones being produced IMO.

i like the older volvo's, tough as hell, and can be pretty quick. Did have some laughs though when a student friend of mine claimed his suspension mods to his old volvo meant he could "outhandle a porsche".

Id look into a 94 volvo 850.
My friend has the non-turbo wagon version, dark blue and its awesome.
I'd look for a turbo, though.
I hope to either get a '94 ish 850 turbo wagon or a '95 ish saab 900, both of which i hear are pretty good vehicles.

the old saabs are cool little cars but their engine gunks up quickly. Get an old turbo volvo instead.

sorry, what...?
the early saab engines (pre -93, before saab became a part of GM) are indestructible as long as you change your oil regularly etc.
i have friends who have +300 tkm turbo saabs. my dad had a +400 tkm one. no problems whatsoever.
the police have had ~1 000 000 km saabs.
biggest difference between old saabs and volvos is (except that i think saabs are much better looking...) that volvos were RWD, saabs FWD...
oh, and 240 volvos and 740 volvos are good choices. 740 had some problems with rust. 940 volvos are bigger, and more expensive.
