Yeah another year and since I'm inheriting my dad's truck I'm thinking of getting a sport bike like shared with my older brother. Most likely a 600 or 650 and around those cc areas. Nothing less and definetly not a 1050. I have experience with dirtbikes, I used to ride my friends 230, rode another kids 150, and I have a 80 that I hardly ride and let the whole neighbor ride haha.

Back to topic. You think I should do this? My brother doesn't have any experience but I have a friend who is like a crazy fan of Triumphs and he has one and a Ninja 250 I believe. Also his grandfather has a hayabusa and a whole garage of Triumphs. My friend is willing to teach my ride on his 250 but says it's not worth getting one since it's really slow.

I'm not sure, anyone have one that started out like me?

The Ninja 250 isn't slow if you're new to riding. I was going to buy a 2003 ZX-6RR right out of the gate, but do you know how many people told me how retarded I was for even thinking that?

Not only are you inexperience on street bikes, but anything considered supersport (600 cc) is going to kill you on insurance.

I started on a 1999 250 Ninja, and I'm glad I did. The experience I gained was absolutely invaluable. They're not as slow as you might think. I had mine jetted to stage 4, and a 2 into 1 full Muzzy exhaust, and I had no problem getting it up to speeds. The thing could keep up pretty good with faster cars.

So, you gotta think before you put your money down on a 600 and think about the consequences across the board.

What is your hesitation in getting a bike?

I would start small because if you don't know what you're doing and fuck up on a bigger bike, you don't just break an arm, you get scraped off the pavement with a spatula.

they call em donor bikes for a reason...
nonetheless, they look like fun.

Ya, I was in the same situation as you. I bought a yamaha r6, and couldnt have been happier. Its got enough horses to do wheelies and take you up to 170mph, plus its sick as hell looking. The new 2006 and 2007 models are wild too...

Any reason why the front brakes are bigger than the rear ones?

Wouldn't that make you do a faceplant?

on which bike?

Believe it or not i Rarely use my rear brakes. And you only faceplant when you apply too much brakes or leaned too far forward.

Go get yourself a Ninja 250
You can learn to ride on it-basics
and can sell it for pretty much the same price, they hold their value

The trick is to ride in reverse. That makes everything alright.

Physics. The vast majority of stopping power is at the front wheel.

The first bike i rode was a buddy's 600. Crashed it. Then i bought myself a 250. The bike is a lot of fun actually, and can still do a pretty decent speed. It's great to learn on, don't throw away that option. But i did sell it after a few months.

If you're getting a 600, get a used one to start. Odds are good you'll put it down. And take the Motorcycle Safety course in your area, if for insurance purposes only.

You didn't crash it? Lucky you. Don't encourage others to take stupid risks.

Its all how you ride it, Hell look at the new Gsxr 1000's they have mode control A B or C Its like a 600 750 and a 1000. My friend say's in mode C it doesnt have too much throttle and it wont climb over 120mph.

Probably should start using your rear brake, whoever said they rarely use it... Ever taken a MSF class? Best to use both brakes, with a little favor to the front. I wouldn't rely on just my front brake, even if it is most of your stopping power.

Yeah I said i rarely use my rear brakes, Reason being that my engine braking does it all for me. The 07 R1 has a slipper clutch so i just downshift and let the engine do the rest. And if i do apply brakes like for a red light or something I tap the front brakes. I do use the rear but not often. Hope that clears it up a bit.

I'd rather replace brake pads than a clutch. And if you only engine brake, you're brake lights aren't coming on.

As for me, during braking i will use both brakes together, or just the front brake. The only time i use the rear brake alone is stopped at a light or on a hill. Braking too hard and locking up your rear tire can be an unfriendly situation.

Well I am talking about city driving, 45MPH. And Engine braking doesnt hurt the clutch. Unless your doing like 60 and drop it to 1st gear. Then your a Idiot. Lol I know I use my rear brake but its all natrual. And when I slow down i always tap my front brake before plan on stopping to let the cars behind me know.

The thing about my tail light is that it pulses 3 times when i apply my brakes so thats a nice feature. http://www.tobefast.com/07R1bastx.wmv

Was it really worth the money to go from the '04 to '07? I've got an '05, but with low mileage, and it seems like a waste. Though, it's always nice to have the newest shit :)

I believe you asked me before, But yes I see it well worth it! Depends on how you ride. I like to take corners and this baby just hugs the road when it comes to them. Yamaha made a damn good handling bike this year! And I like this one with wheelies alot better than the 04.

But I still like the 04-06 Models.

Hah, maybe, we're probably the only two with late model R1s on here. I love my bike, and it takes corners beautifully, so if you're saying the '07 trumps that, i'm jealous. I've been looking at the Ducati 1098 also, as they're famous for their handling. I've only got liability insurance, and i've had too many friends wreck their bikes during fuck ups during wheelies, so i've stopped with 'em too. Your '07 looks sick too, yo. I really need to sit down and decide whether i can wait until the major model change.

hahaha this is so funny, i just got my bike licence like 3 weeks ago, and i can't wait for a bike. i'm 25yr ol and i wanted a gsxr/cbr/r 600 till i checked insurance $6700/yr hahahaha, looks like i won't be getting a 600 anytime soon. Also the owner of the blacked out R1 that is sexiest piece of machinery i have seen!.

i have decided i'm getting this there is no way i'm willing to pay close to $7k cnd for a 600, maybe nxt yr: http://honda.ca/MotorcycleEng/CurrentModels/Sport/CBR125R7.htm?Year=2007

Yeah trust me Yamaha was competing not by horsepower this year, but by thier handling! And they did a hell of a job! I would take the 1098 if i had the money. My friend has a 01 748 and he says its a road hugger on the curves, but when I sit on it i feel so smushed... Im so used to the R1's Prone. And i need to stop my wheelies i see another wreck comming for me soon if I dont. What I need to work on is Full coverage! its about 6,500 a year for me aswell. But I hear State Farm has the best and cheapest Motorcycle Insurance.

Did we hijack this thread?? LOL

Yea so I read the replies and what not and I figure get a Ninja 250R so I can learn on it then resell it and get a better one later one. I won't be a stunna or something just would like to have the feeling of different driving experiences. Thanks you all
