No surprises here (http://jalopnik.com/cars/custom-cars/somebody-catch-it-now-donked-on-the-strip-248332.php). Exactly what you think will happen happens.

He could have used some C-Clip eliminators, he still would have broken the axle, but he wouldn't have had to pick his car up off the ground. That would have happened even without the big wheels, he probably had a 8.2" 10 bolt, those can't handle much power. If anything being lifted kept him from destroying his quarters. He needs a 9" under that thing.

I've put 350 horse through a 10 bolt caprice rear end. But I agree with everything you've said.

I do however think he would have had better luck with smaller wheels. Even if he ran slicks. Slicks would at least have a recoil, and allow for a decent amount of elasticty with the rear end. He probably wouldn't have slipped the axle like he did. I got a friend with a 72 monte, 10 bolt rear, with a built 383, and no problems yet. My olds cutty had a 10 bolt and I beat the shit out of it. Lost transmissions before the rear.

Ah, but I just got back from the bar, and this took me a bunch of minutes to write, so I may be thinking fucked up. I think he launched too hard.

There are 3 different 10 bolts, the 8.5 is the only one worth a shit, the 7.5 and 8.2 may as well be made of glass. That could have been a six banger car with a 7.5, you either twist the axle tubes out of the housing or you snap an axle any time you try to hook up much more than 250hp though a 7.5.
