Mileage is usually the last thing I look for (depending on the car)

A car with 40,000 miles on it that was never taken care of is worse off than a car with 200,000 miles on it that was taken care of.

There are a lot of things to look at when buying a used car. I could go into detail, but hopefully someone on here will beat me to it.

Exactly what I said to my friend who kept bitching at me this car has too much mileage.

Im falling for this car. The owner told me it was never on an accident and runs smooth.

I don't look at mileage at all, but most cars I look at only have 5 digits on the odometer, my car is about to have 00000 miles on the odometer soon.

Depends on the car. My VW had nearly 160,000 when I bought it, but lots of people have put 3-4 times that much on them.

Did you buy the information? Because 90% of the time, none of their "records" have anything to do with car accidents.

Most of the time it's change of ownership, and other useless information.

rofl, falling for a nissan altima.

if it was maintained properly it should have a few miles left in it, but i wouldnt ever pay that much money for an altima with over 100k on it.

My brother had a Mitsubishi Eclipse along time ago, it was a old 5 speed manual, had about 215k miles on it, it ran perfect, had not one problem other than the time it just randomly stalled on the highway. The coolant leaked and it over-heated, dry-rotted bullshit.

when a car is put through tons of mileage in a short time it only means bad things...especially if they are all highway miles...carbon buildup being one

Now, I'm no mechanic. But I was told highway miles are "better" than city driven miles. Less stopping and starting, not working the engine as hard, runs cooler. I don't know, I could have been lied to, but it sounds logical.

.............................

anyways high mileage is the first thing you should look for....a 02 with that many miles is not a good thing......you should be buying a 99-00 if you want that many miles...for an 02 don't buy any higher than 80K .....

Bosses work truck. Pver 300k (keep in mind, it's a work truck). Starts everytime on the first crank, runs/idles like new, drives better than his new truck. Taken good care of.

Bingo.

it's why you never buy a car from malaysia or singapore, because both countries are the size of post stamps and have a lot of cars, all the cars are pretty much used in stop start traffic.

Well in my own personal experience I bought a car with 44k miles on it for 9000 which I thought was a steal until I found out most of the wiring in the back had been redone(probably for a system or something) and I spent 2 weeks cleaning up all the shorts that ass left me. Luckily a couple of good friends and a wiring diagram took care of that....but regardless, I would agree with most people here, its not the miles, its how the car has been taken care of.

I wish I knew enough about cars to tell you what to look for exactly but I only know the basics, rust, leaks, and anything in the car that doesnt look stock.

Oh and I noticed your from Elizabeth, I am too...Elmora Ave section, maybe I will see you in Doremus with that Altima?

My VW has to have the odomometer roll over at least 4-5 times in it's life so it has to have around 400,000-500,000 miles on it.
