There ya go! Excellent write up, and recommended for all those people who seek free speed.

Except it doesn't meet any of the regulations for any drag strip I've ever seen.

Cool none the less.

I lawl'd, good stuff, I also love the idea of using duct tape instead of a proper mounting bracket.

Just don't crash, or your belt will pull the B-pillar into your face.

Other than that, what a cool article. I weighed my car in at 740kg yesterday, it used to be 780kg before I did anything to the interior. That's 5% weight loss for nothing, and I still have my dash, headlining, passenger seat etc.

My Ghia weights just over 900 pounds. I don't have the back seats, the roof was chopped of, and I do not have glass windows. The front iwndow is plexiglass and is also chopped down 2 inches. Since I don't have a roof, I do not have side windows either. There is some fiberglass body mods to it, but not much at all. I sitll have my passenger seat for friends who want to cruise in it. I don't race it anymore, it is just my daliy driver.

So they completely destroyed a perfectly good car to take 2 seconds off its 1/4 mile time?

900 pounds :ahhh:

MY target is 700kg (90% of original weight) in fast road tune (still get a glovebox and blowers :uhoh:), I'm not sure how I'd get all that, but I still have sound sealant in there which weighs about 15kg, I'm sure I can lose some other stuff too. Just have to see when the time comes, because there's not much in the way of extra tidbits in there, but it's so fun ripping stuff out!

Nope, they did all that as a joke.

They probably picked that Sentra up for like a few grand. ;)

I've never had a ride in a mini, but I bet they're a drive which is not to be missed, especially when about town being so low down and cosy.

Lightweighting has shot up in my agenda ever since I saw these videos:

In particular THIS one:

I am simply amazed by the turn-in and the lack of lateral momentum to pull it from it's intended line. A combination of great suspension, lots of downforce, pulled together with a very light car indeed. This is what downforce is all about, with a good body setup using front and rear spoilers, you gain the physical advantage of a heavy car (tyres forced down onto the ground increasing tyre adhesion shitloads) with none of drawbacks - no extra weight to burden with on acceleration, nor any sideways forces to induce understeer (wings and spoilers don't weigh much). All you will have to put up with is drag, that's it. And even then, aerofoils are tweaked for purpose - these ones are steep to work well at 70-90mph and help ensure it doesn't lose it on the elevations and crests. Obviously for an R34 taking long corners at 130mph it needs bumping flatter by a few degrees. It's all simple science which makes spoilers so appealing to the circuit-goer.

I'm waiting for the inevitable: It's a FWD car and it has a rear spoiler!!!!1 OMG!!11 Except that rear spoiler keeps the tail stuck down on turn in, and that front dam makes the leading wheels point like a dagger to the finish line. This car, in the berg cup, my favourite sporting pursuit for sheer excitement. It's a worthy role model.

But yeah, show us pictures of your Ghia. And I'll show you mine, baby :boink:

Polo, that is. :uhoh:

I bet that sentra would make a great autotesting car now. A bit bigger than your average chop-top rollcage mini, but put those rear wheels back on and how much fun...?

because it's low and loud, 40mph feels like 400 :D
recently i drove a triumph spitfire with a 2.7 litre straight six, it was incredible, you could reach out the window and run your hand along the road while driving :D
