This weeks debate is one of musical economy. Here is the proposal.
"CDs will Never have True Collectable Value"
I am not sure about this one, I have some CDs which are limited edition etc, but will many CD's eventually accumulate in value?
I personally have a pretty big collection, so I would do fine out of it, so my answer is 'Hope so, yes'
What about y'all?

No, I don't think so.
1. CD's are easier to get, plus there aren't as much rare stuff on cd opposed to vinyl.
2. Vinyl are way harder to get, and by that increasing vinyls (some, of course) value.
3. Internets. Ruining it all.

I agree that most CDs will never be collectibles. However there are a few exceptions, mainly albums with limited release that are very hard to find.

Anything is collectable so long as someone collects it!
I like to think I collect CD's, though I can easily get a complete album off the internet, if I really like it I'll still buy the actual CD.

Some CD's are collectable.
I have some limited editions (by various artists), some of which are numbered and signed by the band members themselves that were only available through the various band's fan clubs that have gone up in value since I bought them.
Some general release CD's can be collectable - I have a Hawkwind album that was on general release for two weeks only before the record company that released the album went bust (the disc was later re-released on another label). There are only about 4,500 around from that first run, and even though the album is nothing special, it's collectable.
I have to say though, that general release CD's aren't really collectable yet, mainly because they haven't been replaced by anything, and when CD's do get replaced, that's when they'll become collectable.

Exactly. Back in the day, vinyls were produced in mass quantities as CDs are today. And guess what - they were usually about as collectable as CDs are today. In a few years time, when CDs have been pretty much replaced by whatever (probably digital formats), they'll start to become collectable.
