Really? Ahh shit, that means I'll need to get a 1080p set come november.
Does anyone know if the 360 is coded to output 1080p over the component cables? I know it's possible, but it depends on how they set it up.

Yes, both component and vga do 1080p it dosnt have anything to do with how you set it up or not except for if your tv supports 1080p. It has been this way for a long time now, but yet everyone still thinks for some reason that hdmi is the only thing possible for doing 1080p.

I think it's technically possible, but for movies its restricted in software because of some Hollywood restriction to prevent 1080p over component.

yeah for only HD-DVD though, but its like that on any device you use whether its a tv, monitor, computer/laptop(xp, vista, mac, and linux(unless you do it the illegally)), or hd-dvd player. Its a restriction they put on the software but the hardware can do it if hollywood allowed it.

Err Xeoset he said it was not confirmed for 1080p at all, theres a big difference between 'rumored' or 'according to a story' and 'Bungie official confirmes it's Halo 3 title to be supporting 1080p'
Oh lets look at the full story
UPDATE: Numerous emails coming through from people vowing that the final Halo 3 will be 720p at 60fps.
UNCONFIRMED: The Xbox 360's flagship title Halo 3 will support true (not upscaled) 1080p at 60fps, after Microsoft issued an edict to developers Bungie that it must be the most technically advanced game available on the platform.

Direct from Bungie themselves -
"The strangest rumor of all was that MS was “forcing” Bungie to make Halo 3 60 fps at 1080p. Um, it was one thing to see that on a forum, but it was strange to see it on regular news site."

more from the article
1080p at 60 fps is awesome for fighting games and barely a stretch for Live Arcade games. But if you want epic battles, dozens of bad guys, huge vistas and colossal structures, with advanced AI, HDR lighting and explosive physics, then you’re not getting those at 1080p at 60fps. Actually, that’s not entirely accurate – Halo 3 will display at 1080p through the Xbox Elite with its scaler and HDMI port, but not natively. We’ve seen it do just that and it looks utterly lovely. So if you have a 1080p TV, enjoy it yourself in a few weeks. Most people, and I mean the VAST majority of people don’t have a 1080p TV, so it would be foolish to sacrifice even a single feature for a bullet point number on the back of a box.
sorry xeoset but the evidence now points away from you.

I own a 360 (have done since launch) but I am not a fanboy, & until I see clear evidence saying halo 3 will run in 1080p then I call B/S.
You need to be more objectionable & read more into your "evidence"

Urm Deakmm we've already shown that Halo 3 will not run in 1080p ... it will have an upscaler for the elite however thats it.
