"Big news today for Blizzard fans!
"It took a good day of calls and emails, but Blizzard just got back to us about the rumor floating around that Starcraft 2 will be announced next month during their World Wide Invitation in Seoul, South Korea.
According to a Korean website, StarCraft 2 is being developed in 3D with a new race and lots of changes for existing units. The site went on to say that additional details would be revealed during Blizzard's WWI on May 19th in Seoul.
When reached for comment today this was Blizzard's official response:
We do intend to announce a new product at the Worldwide Invitational next month in Korea, and we appreciate the enthusiasm and interest in getting an advance look at what that will be, but players will ha
ve to wait until May 19th to find out more. Also, we have a very strong connection with the characters and settings of StarCraft, and we do plan to revisit that universe at some point in the future, but we don't have anything new to announce in that regard at present.
So that's a yes on a StarCraft 2, eventually, and a yes to a product announcement next month. The only question now is are they one in the same. " -Brian Crecente, from Kotaku."
This implies the game is not SC2, however the convention is being held in Seoul, South Korea but it's "world wide". Blizzard is known to use reverse psychology.
I am doubting a "new" title, they have a massive fan base just drooling for SC2 and Diablo 3, it's one of these games.
Blizzard has made a staggering amount of hints about Diablo 3 over the past year and not so much SC2.
But something else interesting
"April 27, 2007 - Blizzard has updated its job listings with several positions that will be working on a next-gen massively multiplayer online game (MMO). The publisher/developer is seeking a Lead Engine Programmer, Lead Tools Programmer, and a Lead Technical Artist. Begin speculation…now.
The term "next-gen" is typically used to describe consoles, and World of Warcraft has been rumored to be heading to the Xbox 360. Of course, Blizzard's VP of Development Itzik Ben Bassat told Empire Magazine a few months ago that the company's next MMO would not be another WoW. The Lead Engine Programmer Blizzard is seeking will be in charge of developing an entirely new engine for this next-gen MMO, and a port of WoW would likely use a tweaked version of the existing engine.
There have also been ongoing rumors about the continuation of the StarCraft franchise as either another real-time strategy game or a World of StarCraft-type MMO.
Blizzard is set to make a major announcement at an event in Korea next month. IGN will be on hand at the event, and hopefully we'll learn more about this project at that time."
Blizzard is possibly making a MMO for consoles, so this whole announcement could be a brand new games by Blizzard for consoles, Diablo 3 on a console OR World of Warcraft being ported to Xbox360(which is the most likely canidate)
This whole thing could just be WoW and being ported.
Also, Blizzard South IS large enough to develop and maintain three titles at a time. It's possible both Diablo 3 and SC 2 are in development.
