okay
specs right now are:
PD 2.8 ghz
512 mb ddr RAM
9800 pro
ultra v series 400 watt power supply
options:
1. buy x1950 pro along with 1 gig of ram for probably around 400 cnd. this will definitely last me for long time I think.
2. wait till july and spend around 2 grand on a PC. If I went with option 1 I would still be building a new comp in a year or two from now.
what do you think?

whats a PD 2.8 ghz? you have to remember that all parts depend on each other. if you get the top of the line video card and you have a mid ranged or not so good CPU, its going to bottle neck and you wont be able to get the power out of it that you want.
also, what motherboard do you have?

Pentium D sorry
and what I neglected to mention in that post was that my video card slot is agp. so the card is about $50 more.. not sure exactly what mobo though.. elitegroup something rather.
I wish I wasn't so impatient. :|
I'm just thinking that if I waited it out a couple year to buy what an awesome computer I could get. I think I'm gonna go with the upgrade
unless there's something else I should know about :uhoh:

if u can wait about a year and spend around 2500 do that
at any cost if u don't need a great machine u can build a really good computer for right around 1000 dollars assuming u have a monitor and a case that u like already

Personally, I'd wait a while and buy a new computer but it's your choice. What model number is your motherboard? I used to have an ECS Elitegroup K7S5A motherboard - a lot of bad reviews for ECS motherboards, but that one served me well.
What games do you play?

ECS isn't bad if you are running at stock. Most of their boards run pretty good if you are lucky.

I'm running a Biostar board at the moment. Very nice board layout too.

I think I'll wait for a while to buy new and then go fuckin nuts and spend a lot on it. but still upgrade now
my main reason for wanting to upgrade is for oblivion.. every thing else I've played runs fine by my standards now. actually I think I've already made up my mind.
can't find my mobo case right now but why do you ask? does it make much of a difference?

Nah, I was just asking about the mobo model number out of interest.
The thing with Oblivion is that it tends to be quite hard drive intensive. I have a 7950GT, AMD 4200+ and 2 GB of DDRII 800 RAM - the bottleneck for me in Oblivion is the hard drive.
So you might want to make sure you have a 7200 rpm hard drive as well, otherwise Oblivion might run slowly regardless of your other specs. You might want to try and install it on a separate hard drive to the one Windows is on. That should improve performance.
