Anyone have it? Me and a friend just got it and are leveling up south park style. Fighting worms and rabbits.
i had it for pc. very time consuming game. I had 3 level 75 jobs. i'd recommend leveling ninja. very costy but its the funnest job. its a very fun game though. Alot to do.

Seriously, it takes forever for me and my friend to level up. I'm a human- black mage. In about 6-8 hours I'm still level 4. Also, for some retarded reason, the orcish fodders, mezmerizers, and grapplers are attracted to me like magnets, so I die alot. Do you know how to get new spells (black magic please), without spending a million gil at the auction house?
just wait till u get to valkrum dunes at level 10ish-20.. its the worst place to level up. once u get to level 65ish it takes alteast a day or more to level up. i played fora year and only got 3 level 75 jobs. just wait till u have to do the level breaks and get ur AF ( most of the AF sucks..)
Edit: found an old SS of my character Tuja (yea rhymes with Kuja)
Edit again: nvmd dont know whjy the picture is so small -.-.

So I got to level 6 today, and to my suprise you can level down. I'm just doing easy quests and leveling my black mage. After that I'll probably level warrior if I can, although I heard its a shitty combination. I'm gonna make a new character (midget thingy), but I don't want black mage because then my health will be uber low.
the only good combination for war is war/nin. so you will u have to go mnk till 18 and do the subjob quest. then war/mnk till ur war gets to 30. 30 because u have to be able to unlock the adv jobs. then ull have to go nin/war to 37 then switch back to war/nin to 75. u get magic scrolls from NPCS or the auction house. the tarutaru (midget thing) sucks as a DD or tank. they are only good mages but u can still be a taru if u want. they have very low hitpoints. but very high MP.

I love this game. I'm on PC with it, and I'm pretty much hooked. My husband and I both play for hours after the kids go to sleep.
I'm a Red Mage (main), and I love the job. My husband plays Dark Knight. I have all of them unlocked, though, and I enjoy each of them.
Great FFXI forum (http://www.ffxionline.com/forums) you should check out, lots of good information and friendly people. My screen name there is Aksannyi, after my character name.
What server are you guys on? If any of you are on Hades, you can add me to your friend list.
i'm on remora.
75nin
75whm
75bard
whm is main. but i'd rather play nin any day. although i quit the game. but been thinking about coming back.
Edit: another good FFXI forum, killingifrit.com

Disclaimer: All information I'm posting is outdated, as I haven't played in 3 years, but most likely still relevant.
In Port Sandoria there's a mage shop. you can buy spells there.
For easy money early on, sell stacks of crystals on the auction house.
You get crystals by killing monsters while you have signet on. You can receive signet for free by talking to the gate guard on the way out of town and selecting the option for it. It lasts an hour or so. (I forget how long exactly)
Once you get a little money saved up you should look into buying food. Different foods have different effects that last from about 30 minutes to 1-2 hours. For Black mage you should stick with sweets, like pies. Sweets usually add int, mp, or added mp regeneration while resting. Note: if you die you'll lose your food effect.
You should probably stay away from craft skills for a while. It takes an extremely large investment before you'll begin to turn a decent profit.

^^ Yeah, that's all still relevant.

this game sucks more ass that a prositute trying to fish out a hamster. I can not tell you how many times i fell asleep cause this game sucks. It's bull shit a waste of money if i had the choice between playing this game or shoving a pack of black cats down my piss hole and setting them off, i would blow off my man hood saving my kids from playing such a shitty game.

Julia, I'm currently in cerebus, but I'm making a new content ID so maybe I'll go to hades. The PC , ps2, and 360 players can interact right?

You need to think about what you are typing, and maybe revise it before you submit it. You suck at grammar, you suck at spelling, and you suck at life.
EDIT: I don't care if you don't like the game, but just make sure you don't look like a douche when you are trying to be all badass.

Yes, everyone on the server, regardless of what platform the are, can interact.

Aright thats pretty fucking awesome. So maybe I'll join hades when I make my new character and whatnot. My friend wants to start at windurst, is that a good idea?

Basically all the starting cities are the same, it's just that when you get ready to get into an experience points party, the travel from Windurst is a bit longer. People have been doing it for years, though, so it's not such a bad thing.
Most people go to Valkurm Dunes at 10 to start exping, but if you're from Windurst you can get a couple more levels solo or with a friend (known as "duoing") before you go.

I used to play FFXI hardcore for about a year, then I decided to quit because it was taking up too much time. I had WHM and BST up in the 70's.
The easiest way to make money if you're starting out is to farm crystals and silk threads. Fire crystals used to sell for a decent price when I played.

Ah ok, thanks guys for the tips. So basically I created a new ID, but I didn't join hades because one of my friends from school is already in another sever. Don't feel bad JDH (can I still call you that?), nothing personal.
Also, where do I get signet casted on me in windurst, or is it only in San D'Oria?
JuliaAguilar

In Windurst talk to the guy by the gate who has a W.W. next to his name. He'll give you signet.
Yes you can still call me JDH.
And no hard feelings. :)

Ok cool, today I'm gonna work on leveling up my tarutaru red mage. I can see my social life (what little bit I had at least), going out the window this summer.
Lol, tarutaru. (http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/2224/gag070430210855aiz1.jpg)

Tarutarus are cute. When you're playing today, do /panic. It's hilarious.
I don't have any recent screenies. I'll have to take some to post here. :)
EDIT: Red Mage pwns.

EDIT: Red Mage pwns.
I'll try that later on. Yea, the red mage does pwn. I find it easier in the windurst region than in the San D'Orian region though. I've only died twice and I've leveled up twice as fast. The only thing Is I fear I'm becoming one of those WoW people who talk about it all day.

I talk a lot about FFXI, too. I've become an uber-geek. Sometimes when my husband and I are talking, I will answer with something that's in the auto-translate. Like, "Hey, will you change his diaper?" "{No thanks.} {I'm not up for it.}"
Yeah. I'm a loser.

Uber bump and double post, but I did promise I'd post some self-screenies:
My character, close up:

Waving from Sky (area you have to do like 9 zillion things to get access to, quite a big accomplishment)

Currently RDM 73/BLM 36. Got lots of other jobs in process, too, but RDM is my main.

Nice character btw.
