I hate, but I found a rap song I actually like! Really, it brought a tear to my eye.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-HRERBySuc

"[Verse 1]
I once knew a nigga whose real name was William
his primary concern, was making a million
being the illest hustler, that the world ever seen
he used to fuck moviestars and sniff coke in his dreams
a corrupted young mind, at the age of thirteen
nigga never had a father and his mom was a feen
she put the pipe down, but forever yeah she was sober
her sons heart simultaneously grew colder
he started hanging out selling bags in the projects
checking the young chicks, looking for hit and run prospects
he was fascinated by material objects
but he understood money never bought respect
he build a reputation cause he could hustle and steal
but got locked once it didn't hesitate to squeal
so criminals he chilled with didn't think he was real
you see me and niggaz like this have never been equal
I dont project my insurecurity's at other people
he feeded for props like addicts with pipes and needles
so he felt he had to prove to everyone he was evil
a fever minded young man with infinite potetial
the product of a ghetto breed capatalistic mental
coincidentally dropped out of school to sell weed
dancing with the devil, smoked until his eyes would bleed
but he was sick of selling trees and gave in to his greed

[Hook]
Everyone trying to be trife never face the consequences
you propably only did a month for minor offences
ask a nigga doing life if he had another chance
but then again there's always the wicked at new and advanced
dance forever with the devil on a code cell block
but thats what happens when you rape, murder and sell rock
devils used to be gods, angels that fell from the top
there's no diversity because we're burning in the melting pot

[Verse 2]
So Billy started robbing niggaz, anything he could do
he'd get his respect back, in the eyes of his crew
starting fights over little shit, up on the block
stepped up to selling mothers and brothers the crack rock
working overtime for making money for the crack spot
hit the jackpot and wanted to move up to cocaine
for filling the scarface fantasy stuck in his brain
tired of the block niggaz treating him the same
he wanted to be major like the cut throats and the thugs
but when he tried to step to 'em, niggaz showed him no love
they told him any motherfucking coward can sell drugs
any bitch nigga with a gun, can bust slugs
any nigga with a red shirt can front like a blood
even Puffy smoked the motherfucker up in a club
but only a real thug can stab someone till they die
standing in front of them, starring straight into their eyes
Billy realized that these men were well guarded
and they wanted to test him, before business started
suggested raping a bitch to prove he was cold hearted
so now he had a choice between going back to his life
or making money with made men, up in the cife
his dreams about cars and ice, made him agree
a hardcore nigga is all he ever wanted to be
and so he met them friday night at a quarter to three

[Hook]

[Verse 3]
They drove around the projects slow while it was raining
smoking blunts, drinking and joking for entertainment
untill they saw a woman on the street walking alone
three in the morning, coming back from work, on her way home
and so they quietly got out the car and followed her
walking through the projects, the darkness swallowed her
they wrapped her shirt around her head and knocked her onto the floor
this is it kid now you got your chance to be raw
so Billy oaked her up and grapped the chick by the hair
and dragged her into a lobby that had nobody there
she struggled hard but they forced her to go up the stairs
they got to the roof and then held her down on the ground
screaming shut the fuck up and stop moving around
the shirt covered her face, but she screamed the clouts
so Billy stomped on the bitch, until he broken her jaw
the dirty bastards knew exactly what they were doing
they kicked her until they cracked her ribs and she stopped moving
blood leaking through the cloth, she cried silently
and then they all proceeded to rape her violently
Billy was meant to go first, but each of them took a turn
ripping her up, and choking her until her throat burned
a broken jaw mumbled for god but they weren't concerned
when they were done and she was lying bloody, broken and broos
one of them niggaz pulled out a brand new twenty-two
they told him that she was a witness of what she'd gone through
and if he killed her he was guaranteed a spot in the crew
he thought about it for a minute, she was practicly dead
and so he leaned over and put the gun right to her head

(Sample from "Survival of the Fittest" by Mobb Deep)
I'm falling and I can't turn back
I'm falling and I can't turn back

[Verse 4]
Right before he pulled the trigger, and ended her life
he thought about the cold pain with the platinum and ice
and he felt strong standing along with his new brothers
cocked the gat to her head, and pulled back the shirt cover
but what he saw made him start the cringine studder
cuz he was starring into the eyes of his own mother
she looked back at him and cried, cause he had forsaken her
she cried more painfully, than when they were raping her
his whole world stopped, he couldn't even contiplate
his corruption had succesfully changed his fate
and he remembered how his mom used to come home late
working hard for nothing, cause now what was he worth
he turned away from the woman that had once given him birth
and crying out to the sky cause he was lonely and scared
but only the devil responded, cause god wasn't there
and right then he knew what it was to be empty and cold
and so he jumped off the roof and died with no soul
they say death take you to a better place but I doubt it
after that they killed his mother, and never spoke about it
and listen cause the story that I'm telling is true
cuz I was there with Billy Jacobs and I raped his mom to
and now the devil follows me everywhere that I go
infact I'm sure he's standing among one of you at my shows
and every street cypher listening to little thugs flowe
he could be standing right next to you, and you wouldn't know
the devil grows inside the hearts of the selvish and wicked
white, brown, yellow and black colored is not restricted
you have a self destructive destiny when your inflicted
and you'll be one of gods children and fell from the top
there's no diversity because we're burning in the melting pot
so when the devil wants to dance with you, you better say never
because the dance with the devil might last you forever"

True dat. Once you look past the annoying, repetitive drum beat, and the guy's monotone voice, the story he tells is really compelling. If Immortal Technique squeezed some actual singing in there, I would like the song a bit more.

I hate Immortal Technique, all he really is, is some paranoid Che Guevera repping punk bitch with terrible breath control. He litteraly sounds like he's drowning and gasping for air on the mic, which really intreupts the flow of the songs.

However I do enjoy dance with the devil, only song of his I can really tolerate.

I think it's the opposite: It's all the white kids in the suburbs who know nothing about the ghetto who eat up shit like 50 Cent.

EDIT: Yeah, I go to one of the richest, whitest schools in my city, and everyone loves 50, Lil' Jon, etc.

No, I'm pretty sure moocowz is right, people from the hood really like 50 cent. I go to a ghetto ass school where most of the people come from da ghetto and they all pretty much worship 50 cent as a great artist. So stop talking like you know what you are going on about, because you obviously don't.

BTW, 50 Cent is a lot better than Immortal Technique, and I don't even like 50.

You and bukowski are right...kids in the ghetto really like 50 cent, but suburb white kids make it mainstream, so you gotta point there.

Calm the fuck down he was just voicing his opinion. What makes you think you know what you're talking about any more than what he does? And better is a matter of personal taste. I prefer listening to 50 cent over Immortal Technique as well but Immortal Technique does have a message in most of his songs whereas 50 sticks to the usual bitches, cars, and money.

Haha. Lamest plot twist ever. I do respect immortal technique more than most modern rapers though, because he seems like he actually bothers to put some thought into his work.

You tell me to calm down yet you're the one who's coming off as the raging bull. I know what I'm talking about more than he does, from guess what, personal experience. What Moocowz said was right, a bunch of ghetto kids love them some 50 cent, Shameless said that he thought it was the opposite, yet I know from experience that people in the ghetto love them some 50 cent.

The obvious fact is that it's not just the poor blacks and it's not just big bad whitey who makes 50 big, it's both of them. The race or creed or whatever of the fans don't matter, it's the fact that they support the artist in question.

And I didn't mean for my opinion on 50 > Immortal to be taken as fact. Because it should be a blatant truth that musical preference is all opinion based. There is no fact concerning whether an artist is better than another, just opinion. So when I said that I didn't expect anyone to suddenly take it as if I were stating a fact.

I was actually introduced to hip hop through these forums when someone posted a song of Immortal Technique's in '04. He's by no means prolific, but I think he successfully blends a type of consciousness (using that term lightly since blatantly conscious/'intelligent' rap tends to be stodgy and irrelevant) with vicious gangsta goodness.

Downfalls: breath control as bukowski said, and at times weak beats as well as silly wordplay (See the infamous "...like retarded kids throwing ice cubes at the sun" debacle)

If you think that was a good song...

This is by the artist "Bernie Allen", its a code-name side project from Gym Class Heroes front man Travis.

Here is the link to the myspace page. Click "Eighty-Five" and listen

http://www.myspace.com/bernieallen

The song is about looking back on your past, your firsts and just realizing that you lost your childhood and how sometimes you never really want to grow up. Also theres some cool ref to 80's TV shows, characters and Tony Hawks Pro Skater (lol), etc.

Lyrics:

It seems like lately time be beatin’ my ass,
Every step is like a right hook from Iron Mike Tyson in his prime,
It’s like my mind is on a tredmill,
I’m sweatin’ bullets,
see the plug but I can’t pull it,
This belt just keeps bringin’ me back,
And every minute is like a ‘tiger uppercut’ from Sagat,
I’m up against these ropes,
and ain’t no tellin’ if I win or not,
These gloves are getting heavy,
it’s fight or flight you know how that goes,
Facin’ clocks is chasin’,
got me dodgin’ obstacles,
And every hour is like a tightrope I walk with greasy shoes,
Still yet I got my conscience tellin’ me that I can’t lose,
So every time I start slippin’ ego’s start trippin’,
I focus real hard and levitate just like I’m GOD,
And I’m livin’ lovely,
I’m in the clouds no one above me,
With the gift to differentiate snakes from those that love me,
There’s a thin line between happiness and hopeless,
An even thinner line between on point and out of focus,
BUT Back to my story about my fall from glory,
And how I levitate from the fate time put before me,
They say ‘Be patient’,
but what the fuck is patience when my heart is racin’?
Put yourself in my situation,
Try to be humble,
you won’t refrain from getting’ pissed,
When you look down to see you’re fallin’ right through time’s abyss,
And start to see visions,
memories you really miss, simple things,
Like your first birthday wish,

Your first girlfriend,
Your first love,
Your first French kiss,
Your first time feeling hate,
The first time you got dissed,
Your first day of school,
Your very first college class,
Your first time touchin’ titties,
First time you got ass,
Your first time learnin’ wrong from right,
First lonely night,
The first time you got your ass whooped in
Your first real fight,
Your first triple-double dare,
Your first pubic hair,
Your first time watchin’ Jason,
Your first nightmare,

That’s when you realize that time was your worst nightmare,
And now you’re stuck asking yourself ‘Why ain’t life fair?’,
You get closer to the bottom,
see the end of your line,
Your first time ever losin’ this battle with time,
But right before you meet your death,
one more memory left,
The only one that’s obsolete was your first breath,

One moon to the next,
Clocks switch when you least expect it and make the simplest shit complex,
The baby face got the planet fooled,
Books get judged by the covers worldwide, coincide with the illest,
The real is just fictional dreams,
No time to deal with two dimensional fiends, shit hit’s the fan with every click of a hand,
I’ll be a man eventually,
When the kid in me is satisfied, but ‘til the day arrives all I got is eighty-five.

A clock can kill motivation,
that’s why I’m never rockin’ a watch,
What’s a deadline when you’re living on your own time?
I’m livin’ slow, Peter Pan style son,
You didn’t know I never grow up,
my mind is set at six years old,
As far as I’m concerned this grown-up shit is for the birds,
So pass the skittles,
JuJu Fruits, the Now N Laters, and Nerds,
I’m eatin’ sweets until my teeth fall out and I can’t see
And I’m deaf in my left ear but my right can hear cause
I’m livin’ happily. So why you mad at me?
Cause your frustrations gave you grey hairs,
99% of your life’s spent chasin’
American nightmares, (GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE)
I’m crazy childish, just check the habits,
I play with my food, pick my nose, and eat it damn it,
Plus I pick my scabs, I be the first to pop a blister,
Cause I’m more immature than that cat from Sister-Sister,
If my parents tell me no I’m gonna do it anyway,
Experience will make more sense than anything that they could ever say,

Forever playin’ video games until I’m sleepy,
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, please,
you’ll never beat me,
So basically you’re better off paying a bill or somethin’,
Your mind is elderly, forty over the hill or somethin’,
I’m young at heart,
I’ma forever be a kid I’m on some Tom Hanks shit,
you ever seen the movie big?
My heart is trapped in ’85 the coolest place I’ve ever been in my life,
We watchin’ Smurfs, eatin’ cinnamon LIFE,
Never knew a crack rock, cause it was Fraggle,
The only pink pussy we knew was Snaggle,
Your mind’s in the dirt,
We playin’ Hungry-Hippo’s ‘til our hands hurt,
What do you know about pourin’ out a whole box of Trix to get the toy out,
(Scared to) go to sleep cause somethin’s under your bed,
(And all it) took was one look to get them thoughts out your head,
(And then ya’) fall right to sleep without a worry in mind,
(That’s why I) Can’t understand why cat’s be hurryin’ time,
And I don’t wanna grow up I’m a Crab Apple Kid,
And I enjoy the company of people I relate wit’,
But if it comes down to it,
to deal with cat’s that I despise,
I just close my eyes and drift away to Eighty-Five

One moon to the next,
Clocks switch when you least expect it and make the simplest shit complex,
The baby face got the planet fooled,
Books get judged by the covers worldwide, coincide with the illest,
The real is just fictional dreams,
No time to deal with two dimensional fiends, shit hit’s the fan with every click of a hand,
I’ll be a man eventually,
When the kid in me is satisfied, but ‘til the day arrives all I got is eighty-five.

Immortal Technique is alright he isn't horrible though. Alot of great rappers rap in monotone Guru, MF DOOM, Jeru Tha Damaja...and a couple others you don't need to sing in a song to make it good

Immortal Technique has his flaws (breath control), but has gotten a shit ton better with his 2nd album. His 3rd album is coming out sometime soon, and if he goes at the same rate, he'll be amazing... Admit it, the guy's got potential.

If you hated rap, you wouldn't like a song. Not even one.

But the song, it is good.
