Valkyrie Profile meets Devil May Cry = Epic Win

Odin Sphere is a side scroller action RPG developed by Vanillaware, the same people that did Princess Crown for the Sega Saturn back in 1997 and then re-released for the PSP in 2005 both releases Japan-Only. Odin Sphere is considered to be a spiritual successor to Princess Crown, not a sequel even though the gameplay is similar but the story do not connect.

According to IGN, the gameplay is pretty deep, everything has a second job apart from its main use, for example, if you use a healing potion it does two things, it heals you and it gives you experience so that you can increase your health, so your HP does have levels. In the game there is two kinds of levels, as I mentioned earlier your HP level and your Psypher level. Both are displayed in the HUD of the game on top of a shield. Next to the shield is two meters, one says POW the other HP, HP is self-explanatory but POW by looking at the videos is used to increase strength for your combos and Psypher. Below the shield is another meter called the Psypher Gauge, you fill this up in order to use Psypher Spells, each spell requires a specific amount of Psypher Gauges. There is another mechanic called Phozons which are the souls of the enemies your kill, you collect these Phozons to fill up your Psypher Gauge and POW meter and to increase Psypher Level.

The game is separated into stages, and each have their own objectives, if you do the objectives correctly you get points and depending on the amount of points (or performance on stage?) you get a rank for each stage ala Devil May Cry.

I recommend buying multiple copies, this is the type of game that becomes a collector's item.
