Coming to DVD in
Anyone interested? I was anticipating the film before it came out in theaters, but was sorely dissappointed. I was really, really expecting a huge LOTR like adventure, but darker and scarier. What we got was a Civil War movie, which wasn't bad. Just not what I was expecting.
I would get it on DVD, except it has that stupid monster with the eyeballs on its hands. That if anything ruined the entire movie for me. :banghead:

Why would the Pale Man scene "ruin the whole movie?" That was probably the best scene of the entire movie; I've never seen anything quite like it in another movie. So few films have moments like that anymore.
As for you expecting a LOTR type adventure, which first off is stupid to expect from any movie since one trilogy is enough, there's nothing to complain about. If you wanted a different movie; you should've seen one.

I don't think you quite understand what he means here.
I can definitely relate; I went to the movie expecting an all out fantasy adventure with dazzling special effects. What I got, however, was a Civil War action drama. Don't get me wrong, it was a great movie, but I would have liked a lot more fantasy and adventure and less drama.

Whoa, so objective... lets stop calling people "stupid" for once. Between you, Spurple, and that other guy... its starting to ruin it for everyone. Try looking at it from different perspectives than your own.

The movie wasn't what i expected either, it was 30 times better. I thought it was going to be like Wizard of Oz 2, it was much darker, and bloodier, and a great piece of work. Some people need to get passed the subtitles though, it's all in spanish. But if you like good Cinema, rent or buy this movie. Very Dark, and the part with the Pale Man, Jesus Christ. But do not expect like Narnia, or Lord of the Rings. This is a War Movie.

when this movie first came out everyone was expecting it to be a fanstasy type movie. the blame goes to the trailers and whoever came up with them. but if you were to actuall have looked up info on the movie you wouldn't learned it was not anything like the trailers made it out to be. but it was definitely what i was expecting from a guillermo del toro film. he also made blade 2, hellboy, cronicas, mimic, the devil's backbone. he'll also be doing hellboy 2: the golden army.

im in the middle of watching it right now (taking a luch break). its okay, but i agree it should have been more of a fantasy movie. i like the hern (or is it fern?) character. skinny ram guy. looks kinda like Baphomet.

I've been wanting to see the movie for a while now, but I never saw it in the theatres. I plan on renting it either at blockbuster or if it comes to the OnDemand thing on TV.

I caught it in theaters, and I absolutely loved it! It was so refreshing to see something like that. I plan to buy it when it comes out on dvd for sure :).

I think it's been out on DVD here since the middle of March and I think it came out in the US yesterday.

i finished watching it. i didnt like it. it had a lot of potential for a fantasy movie, but it seemed like there was no point to fantasy part of it. there were really only 3 fantasy characters (the toad, pale man, and faun) and the whole labyrinth seemed completly useless. besides holding the portal in the middle, it had nothing to do with the rest of the movie. (i guess i was expecting more of a the Labyrinth with Bowie kind of movie)
there should have been more fantasy story, way less war stuff, and much more characters and places. i guess if you had that though, it would be your typical movie for the genre, which is probaly why a lot of people like th emovie for what it is, but IMO, it had great fantasy potential. 2 amazing charcters that were very scary. and great color and art about the underworld. im giving it a 5.5/10

Just saw it last night. Don't usually go for subtitled stuff , but like
La Visitores (sp?) It caught my attention very much. Really
a well made film.

I was pretty dissapointed too. They didn't balance out the magic and the normal shit very well.. It seems like they took everything out of the ordinary that happened in the movie and put it in the trailer so that you would expect more.
But I do have to say, it held my attention well enough that I forgot their were subtitles.. I was reading automaticly. And not a lot of movies can hold my attention that well.

Well.... I am glad I downloaded it instead of wasting $$$ seeing it at the theater or renting it..... because.... I dod not like it all that much.
The wine bottle-face bash & the cutting of the cheek.... too graphic for my tastes. The story was decent & the creatures imaginative.... and the wierd sagging skin creature with the eyballs in his hands (biting off fairy heads) was pretty creepy/scary, but as a whole.... I just didnt like it. I dont mind a good depressing movie.... but this one just didnt do it for me.

I just don't understand why they just had to put eye balls in the palms of his hands. It just doesn't make sense. And it looked fucking retarded when he put his hands up over his face. I mean it looked horrendously gay. Yeah, that was probably the stupidest monster I've seen in a movie.

I thought that monster was pretty cool. But she had it coming since she decided to eat the damn grape. What a fucking retard.. I think that's when I lost respect for her.
