anyone notice this recently?

It's getting really really out of control and seriously thinking of not playing CS:S anymore soon if VAC2 (piece of shit) does somthing about it.

anyone had these same thoughts?

I've noticed it yes, after playing online for years its so easy to spot a cheater, most people are oblivious to it though!

This is why i love my simple 2d multiplayer spaceship game. Almost no hackers, just a little bit of lag from foreigners sometimes, and thats not that huge a problem.

any significant hacking is almost instantly noticed and bannage happens.

here you go, simple graphics, but incredibly high skill level. Happens when the game has been out for 10 years

I havent played CSS in ages. To many people play it 24/7 for it to be any fun for the casual player like me

they dont care enough to do much of anything about it so they get away with it, and it's not like most servers have a 24/7 admin.

i been playing cs 1.6 and css for about 6 years now, i love the game but i think hackers have taken over, every server i join theres either rate hackers or prper hackers (aimbot wall hack) etc..

funny how most hackers are german..meh

I stopped playing CS shortly after Source came out. Haven't really gotten back into it since then.

Hacking is why I stopped playing Diablo II too.

Online cheaters need to be hung, drawn and quartered.

Yeah, I don't even play CS, but that is why I quit playing Halo 2 and Quake 3 Arena. If there is a game, there is always gonna be pathetic no skill players that can't win without cheating. Sure they will say, "Hey I'm good, I just glitch and cheat for fun". Yeah, its not fun for the other people that actually play with SKILL, that they've learned through lots of practice. Oh well, lame fucking gamers will always be out there.

What's rate hacking?

Changing your rates in game (cvar, sv_, etc.) to more than what the server would allow. This is actually legal in the CPL, but totally immoral if you're playing on a server with people who don't play professionally.

On topic, I too have noticed the ridiculous amount of real cheaters in most FPS games have skyrocketed in the past month, but it's because of Summer Vacation. Lots of little cocks are on the servers right now, but that's when I take a hiatus from the frantic world of FPS gaming.
Currently I'm playing Civilization 4:WL, Starcraft, and Pox Nora. The amount of exploiters amongst other genres is extremely low compared to FPS gaming, so I might suggest playing something else, because you'll never be able to win the hacker war in CS. Ever.

If anyone has a Steam account they don't want...I'd like to get back into CS:S. :)

Unfortunately this happens in every online game, not just CS. I haven't played CSS in a while, but I did encounter some cheaters in CS:CZ a while ago.

It's actually worse in MMORPGs IMO. Maple Story & Gunz suffered the most from this. I don't play them any more, but when I did, I remember a lot of people bragging about the hacks they used.
