Not a bad list but the 25th Hour shouldn't even sniff that list, nor should Taxi Driver either really. Big Lebowski should be a bit higher too, everyone has to see the greatest comedy ever made. Fight Club, way too high, it's not that important.

it's really really good, you'll probably like it.

Wow. You've never seen Apocalypse Now? You're in for a treat. It's nearly a documentary. Also watch Hearts of Darkness (after). It takes place during the Vietnam War.

I don't agree with this statement. At all. The order is not so important anyway. Many of these films, like Godfather and Goodfellas, are equally great but different. Hard to order. Fight Club is a way underappreciated film.

Haha, I was going to suggest Lawrence of Arabia be put on there because I didnt think it would have made the list, but when I saw it, it did...that made me happy, that movie is pretty cool.
And we JUST saw Battle of Algiers in AP Euro...also an awesome old movie...
I really hope that's a joke.
Hell no, dude, Fight Club is an awesome movie. It is worshipped by those who have seen it, but its so surprising how many people havent seen it...
People look at it and think its just some movie where people fight each other, but it is so much deeper and more awesome.

We tried watching it in my Media class, but everyone was being such a dillhole that the teacher just shut it off. I was really getting into it, too.

Why not Do The Right Thing? Because it deals with race relations? I'm really starting to have a problem with people negating any movies like that because of race as a topic.

Interesting assumption, but no I don't fall in the racist category of Ebaum posters. I just found it to be very boring for some reason, although....in retrospect, I may actually be thinking of "Mo Better Blues"...actually I think that is what I was thinking of...so yeah, nevermind, ahahha, my brain is so fucked with all the movies in it.
But yeah, I dunno, I've enjoyed some Spike films, especially "Son of Sam".
I thought Donnie Darko sucked.
Wheres American Beauty, American history x, gladiator, the green mile?

well if you're going to say gladiator, you might as well say braveheart first. and if you're going to say green mile, you might as well say shawshank redemption first. :)
speaking of which, i just realized the other day how good braveheart really is. i mean, it's really really really fucking good. i had forgotten.

I'd take out 25th Hour, Donnie Darko and Fight Club. Good movies, but not great enough to take place of other ones.
I think I'd replace The Big Lebowski with Fargo. It should be a law that everyone sees a Coen Brothers movie, and Fargo is just the best one.
Fight Club, definately over rated. That doesnt mean it sucked, I love it. But people acting like its some super deep, end all thesis of how people should live... thats just bull shit. People should not live their lives through their material possesions? Coming from people who own multi million dollar houses and cars and private jets and all that shit? And what the fuck are we working for our entire lives if not to surround ourselves with things that make life more enjoyable? I love coming home to a nice house, walking on my beautiful finished floors, sitting on my big comfy couch, turning on my nice sized tv and watching one of my 200 DVDs, and I sure as fuck am willing to work hard to get all that. And this movie is calling me some mindless drone for doing so? Fuck that. If anyone takes that message that seriously its because you are looking for a reason to love a movie with kick ass fights even more.
So happy to see Annie Hall, such a genius movie. I saw it almost 30 years after its release and remember thinking "Wow, I have never seen that done before, or even thought of anyone possibly doing that..." When a movie that old makes you think that, there is really something special about it.
Maybe would say The Birth of a Nation. There are tons of differnt art forms, painting, poetry, music. And of all these forms, there is no way to actually see how it really started. We have no clue what the first artistic renderings looked like, because paintings were probably just drawings in dirt, or poetry was just one thing some guy said one time and no one heard. The earliest recordings we have of anything are likely thousands of years after it actually started. But with film we can actually see how it all started, and watching The Birth of a Nation is like being able to see the first human create a logical thought.
Also consider The Graduate, The Wizard of Oz, and one Hitchcock movie.

I disagree, it is a brilliant movie. I dont really care about the whole "what it did for hollywood" argument, but in terms of the overall message, the content, the acting, etc, it was an amazing movie.
Where the fuck is Shawshank Redemption?

Definitely...I'd have put Shawshank somewhere in the top ten...

Anyways I would add:
Cidade de Deus
Citizen Kane
Beauty and the Beast (Disney)
Rashômon
Terminator 2: Judgment Day
The Wizard of Oz

Yeah I would definately keep Clockwork.
Might add Life is Beautiful. Such a great fucking movie about the human spirit. Can really really change your outlook on everything that has ever happened to you in your life. And Roberto Benigni, he has every single ounce of spirit that Charlie Chaplin had, but does not feel for one second like he is copying Chaplin.

Well its not simply what you like better. Almost Famous is my number 2 movie, I wouldnt put it on that list. Its what movies demand being seen by any fan of film more, and Pulp Fiction demands it more then Reservoir Dogs. The Coen brothers have a crazy awesome fucking style, they definately deserve to be on that list because everyone should see their style, and I think Fargo is the best showcase of what they can do. Lewbowski and Arizona are great Coen Brothers movies, but Fargo just takes what they can do even further.

It was obviously partially geared towards the type of people who idolize these sick fucks. I found myself sympathizing with Pitt's viewpoint more than Freeman’s and that only a very artificial feeling serious of plot devices made him prove to have the wrong attitude.
