It takes a couple weeks to get good until you feel confident with it.

I could see myself being able to handle the bike well, but hell if I'd ever try and shit like stoppies or wheelies...

Hey I'm thinking of moving up from my r6 to an r1 in the near future. Have you ever ridden an r6 and can vouch that it's a day and night difference between the two? Like I know I've nowhere nearly reached the full potential of the r6 but I prefer riding in the low end so much more than having to wind it all up to keep a decent pace. I always was a HUGE fan of the 04-06 r1's and I dunno if I'll scare myself shitless with it...

i have a good laugh every single time someone comes into the forum and asks
"its going to be my first bike, i really want a 1000 to start out on for my first road bike. is this a good idea?"

hey pimp, make sure your family notifies us when your funeral and viewing times are if you decide on getting an R1 for your first road bike. kthxbi

youve got to figure out that having the flashiest and fastest bike is not what the motorcycle experience is about. learning and enjoying your two wheels is what its about. then maybe, if you want to race, do it when you have some idea of what street riding is.

NO NO NO.. you will kill yourself, trying to show off..
The only reason I have such a powerful bike when I AM 16, is because I have been riding motorcycles since I was 14..
if you wanna stay alive on a motorcycle, you kind of have to be afraid.
I am not afraid.. I am just smart and not a cocky, show off on my bike.

BAD IDEA! You wont look so cool on the side of the road when you lose control. I dont care what quad you ride it cant compare to a R1 or a R6... and if you have no past experience on 2 wheels why start big? And when you say R1 thats big. Get a ninja 250, you will not regret dropping that a few times just to get the hang of it.

I cant speak for everyone but I was hardheaded... Wish I wasn't at the time (would've saved a lot of money) But owell Shit happens.

Now is the part of riding season I see many new riders (in shorts, sandals, sunglasses no helmet, and tanktop) and then never to be seen again next season. They either wreck their new big bike and are now scared of them or not around to tell the story.

I haven't ridden an r6, but i learned on a CBR600F4. There's a pretty big difference, but it was an old 600, so i don't know about a new 600 to a new literbike. But it is almost twice as big an engine, so... The new r1 (04-06 at least), has a real mellow low end, only after several thousand RPM does it really snap your head back, so for daily riding, it's nice. I started on the 600 (my buddy's), crashed it, bought a 250, and then went to an r1. Scared myself shitless.

Don't be a pussy keep trying and you'll get it. Riding a bike has to be the most fun thing ever. It's a sad thing bikes always sit in people's garages never to be ran, sometimes you forget how good it feels.

To that kid who said he was riding since he was 14 and is 16, time doesn't really make that much of a difference. Did you ride dirt for countless hours and miles, or a much smaller street bike? Did you do track riding? I had a 2001 zx6r, rode the hell out that thing, whether it was hot, cold, or wet. I put about 20,000 miles on it for the 2 years that I rode it before I lost it after katrina. I want a zx10r, but felt that it had been to long since I've ridden a bike so I bought a 2003 zx6r. That track riding seems awesome as hell Beeah. I love riding twist roads, I wish we had a cool track down here.
Yall just remember to me safe and mature on them. I know it's hard but just try.

i have a klx250, love going down the road, seeing a little trail leading off into the woods, and being able to pull over and check it out. Been riding about 2 months. When my brother(also a klx250) want a real challenge we do a walking path route up a small mountain where we live. requires ultimate clutch control because the handlebars of the bike just fit between the trees on either side of the trail, and lots of big hill climbs too. Im probably getting a gs1150or650 or a ktm superduke next year when i can afford it.

i wear hjc helmet, joerocket jacket, or 661 compression suit for offroad trails. msr motocross pants with 661 knee pads. Or aplinestar pants. With aplinestar tech 3. And Aplinestar gloves with carbon fiber knuckle protection.:boink:

If you are looking for a cruiser my friend had a cruiser that I actually liked(coming from a sportbike guy) called a vulcan 800...its from Kawi..Very easy to ride v-twin...a lot of fun to ride, lots of attitude heh!

Is you are looking for a motocross kinda bike there's the DRZ400sm which is a great tight road/trail bike...but its a single cylinder 400 so its not so great on the freeway(doable but not great)

I've narrowed down the bike I'm thinking about getting, its between the Suzuki DR650SE or the Kawasaki KLR650, anyone know anything about either of these bikes that can recommend one or the other, right now I'm leaning toward the Suzuki because the seat is lower, I'm 5'10" but I can barely reach with my tiptoes on the ground with the Kawasaki.

Suzuki (http://www.sanluismotorsports.com/new_vehicle_detail.asp?sid=06545069X8K18K2007J10I0 4I05JPMQ2485R0&veh=54126&CatDesc=Motorcycles)

Suzuki FTW.
A friend has a DR650 and loves it, rides it to work everyday come rain or even light snow. Really great offroad.

If it's your first bike you might also consider an older SV650. What I started on, great learner bike. Obviously not offroad capable but may be to your liking. Pretty low to the ground also.

Have you checked out KTM's? They make several onroad/offroad bikes like that and many people swear by them. I believe they're a little more tipped towards the offroad angle than towards pavement as opposed to the Japs who try to retain streetability.

As far as I know almost everyone there has/had a KLR650 and they really like them over there. It's also cheap as hell but I don't know anything about the Suzuki.
Anyways I'm probably going to sell my TT-R-125 soon. With the average money they sell for and what money I have now I can pick up a Honda CB200 and a '73 Beetle. Both running.

I saw those KTM's they look pretty nice but are a little more expensive and by the looks of it tuned more for offroad than what I need it for. But thanks for the advice.

I checked that website out and it looked like an even mix of people liking one over the other but by some of the arguments made it looks like the Suzuki is more of what I'm looking for. Thanks for that forum it helped out alot.
