Can you guys recommend me some black metal bands that sound like Darkthrone, and old Immortal? Oh and can you tell me which albums I should get as well? Thanks!

I guess satyricon is black metal. I just downloaded some albums yesterday, haven't had a chance to listen.

Leviathan - Tentacles of Whorror / The Tenth Sub-Level of Suicide
both fucking incredible albums if you're into really dark "suicidal" black metal. one of my favorite bands by far. production isn't that great but it's not like some black metal that sounds like a bunch of wasps in a washing machine
Shining - IV The Eerie Cold
another really dark album with a bit better production than those Leviathan ones. It has Hellhammer on drums and he does and incredible job as usual. Kvalforth (or whatever his name is) has some crazy ass vocals too. :ohnoes:
Nachtmystium - Instinct: Decay
get this fucking album right now... 'nuff said
and aronax mentioned that Mutiilation album too. another one of my favorites.. really depressive stuff

I will have to agree here on Leviathan, I only found out about him through a split with Xasthur

I don't think that either is an official one, but it has a few samples. :)
Also if you get the chance check out a band called "Dawn", the album "Slaughtersun" is fantastic

Hmm, a few people I know compare "Transylvanian Hunger" to Ulvers "Madrigal of the Night" which is just as raw I personally think its a masterpiece though some people will probably disagree :S

Dødheimsgard - Kronet Til Konge & Monumental Possession: Before they became industrial/avant-garde, Dødheimsgard played black metal not too far from the vein of Darkthrone. Fenriz does bass duty on Kronet Til Konge, and while he wasn't on Monumental Possession the style of music is quite the same.
Eikenskaden - The Last Dance: It's not really like either of the bands you listed, but I still advise you check it out. Incredibly raw black metal with piano and other keyboard madness stuffed into the background. Creepy shit, much more longing and romantic than any goth stuff. If extremely rough production bothers you, learn to love it!
Isengard - Vinterskugge compilation & Høstmørke: One man side project of Fenriz. Vinterskugge consists of the three demos Isengard released from 1989 to 1993 which vary from black to death and what have you. Høstmørke is completely folk/black. Nothing revolutionary, but entertaining all the same.
Ulver - Bergtatt - Et Eeventyr i 5 Capitler & Nattens Madrigal - Aatte Hymne til Ulven i Manden: Bergtatt is Ulver's debut album, and is much different from the demo that preceeded it, as well as the album that followed it. The production is quite clean, and the music is relatively calm, but not boring. In fact, think Agalloch - Pale Folklore. Sonically, it's different (being black metal and all), but the vision is similar. I think Agalloch may even credit this album as being a large inspiration.
Nattens Madrigal was already mentioned, but it's easily one of my favorite albums. Despite the frenetic pace and production of the album, it brings to mind scenes of nature and beauty rather than evil or anything like that. Like I said for Eikenskaden, if extremely rough production bothers you, learn to love it!

For good black metal in general:
Windir
Ulver
Drudkh
Ildjarn
Kampfar
Sear Bliss
Arcane Necrosis
I don't really keep up with black metal anywhere near as much as I should.

Definitely, I love Windir and Arntor is my fav album. They actually have the most plays on my last.fm.
EDIT: Porcupine Tree has the most plays - I'm sure it was Windir last time I looked. Either way, I've listened to a shitload of Windir this week, so as soon as it updates, it'll change back.

I recently started listening to Bathory and Darkthrone.
If you like the viking type stuff, try Bathory - Hammerheart
For the old school straight black metal, try Darkthrone - Transilvanian Hunger or A Blaze In The Northern Sky

Isengard is a sweet BM band name - it's evil sounding and LOTR-derived. Gotta check them out.

This might be a bit random but I just stumbled upon this video on youtube of a Chilean band covering Emperor's 'The Loss and Curse of Reverence' in their basement and it's fucking brilliant.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebBzhElhNNo
EDIT: This particular song is pretty long and epic and has many very complex guitar melodies so if you haven't heard the original it might not seem very triumphant...but having heard it hundreds of times over the past ten years I'd like to say that this band does a very faithful and impressive version.

No. I mean unless he disappeared yet again and I didn't hear about it.

pretty good cover. I remember trying to cover this song with my old band and failing. mainly because I was too lazy to figure out what the hell he does in the middle of the song.
Edit: but anyways.. anyone heard of Lifelover (http://www.myspace.com/lifeloverband)?
very strange band. good though
