Does anyone here listen to any noise? I was curious to find out how many people in a (non extreme music) forum have listened to or are into noise.

Some bands like:

Government Alpha
Bastard Noise
Merzbow
Masonna
Sickness

For people who have no clue what noise "music" is. It's harsh electronic music generally. Different sounds, sometimes ambient, droning, sometimes with harsh feedback and screaming (some what like grind, but with electronics).

I find it to be a pretty un-heard of, intresting genre of music.

I've never been into full blown noise, but some stuff I like that's noise-influenced or at least somewhat related:

Akitsa - La Grande Infamie (Harsh ass black metal, but they did a split with Prurient who is full blown noise IIRC)
Dälek - Absence (Hip hop with atmospheric noise/doom beats)
Gonkulator - Satan's Burial Ground
Koreisch - This Decaying Schizophrenic Christ Complex
Lightning Bolt - Hypermagic Mountain (Maybe? It's really noise rock more than anything)
Stalaggh - Projekt Nihil
Vonn - Victim One: Agony

EDIT: I can't find a version of it on myspace, but you know what probably tickle my fancy? A noise group with songs similar to the intro to Dälek's Culture for Dollars. Shit is heavy.

would you consider the Locusts noise?

In a way. I won't deny it does have noise qualitys for sure. Lots of "extreme" music have been heavily influenced by noise music. Such as, Pig Destroyer, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, even punk bands like The Dwarves have some base in noise.

More on the lines of torture. They're one of the worst bands I've ever heard.

Only 'noise' group I ever really listened to was Sunn o))). Weird, creepy stuff.

Although I think Sunn is drone.

What is "noise"? is that just like extremely technical fast tempo metal? I like a decent dose of death metal, but I've heard of this "noise" genre and wondering if it is pretty much the same thing, or if it is more like grindcore. I never got into grindcore but maybe it was the bands I heard.

Noise is tough to describe because so many "noise" bands vary from one another. The basic idea is generally electronic or other forms of harsh or ambient noise. This can usally be achieved with a series of looped distrotion pedals and keyboard (for some), synth machines or even guitar. I've been to noise shows where people have used contact mics and blender. It can be strange and pretty cool.

Someone mentioned Melt Banana, which older stuff used to be short bursts of grind style drumming with heavly distorted guitar or electronic noise. Now they play more melodic technical stuff, rather than 35 second bursts of noise. Plus they have the most kick-ass chick vocalist ever.

My dad listens to it, but I find most of it annoying.

I've never even heard of this genre. I'm guna check this out.

Edit: Oh actually if Sonic Youth and Rapeman are noise bands then i have. Albini's the man.

I like Lightning Bolt, Dalek and a bit of drone. But I haven't listened to much noise except Merzbow. That was kind of cool, but I don't know if I would consider it music.
