Beautiful choke? Insane shape? First of all, the choke was nothing out of the ordinary. He took his back, got hooks and choked out Jens Pulver, there's nothing beautiful about that. And as for insane shape, he probably did come in good shape, but insane?....Shogun is in insane shape. Matt Hughes is in insane shape, there's no way to even tell if BJ Penn was in that good of shape especially if he finished him half way through the second round. that choke was beautiful. penn used his leg like an arm and trapped jens' left arm while he sunk the choke in deep... held the choke just a second too long to kill off the grudge...


then squashed the grudge and invited pulver to come train with him. both very classy guys. props to pulver. penn has become one of my favorite fighters to watch now... always exciting.

Haven't seen anything like that outside of an actual BJJ tournament. It's a pretty crafty move.

As for Penn, I also like seeing him fight but I hate him as a person. Every time he fights a part of me hopes his opponent "beats him into a living death" as Ken Shamrock once said, lol. Seriously, I don't like Penn. He said he's moving back up to 170 and I really hope Hughes and GSP go to town on him.

i can kinda see what you're saying with penn.. but how is he any worse than hughes or gsp? i'm assuming your referring to his attitude and cockiness, right?

i use to hate penn, but after seeing hughes do things like celebrate GSP's loss, and GSP make excuses for his own loss (among other things).. penn doesn't seem so bad anymore :) i like his confident style.. he takes it to the line but does not cross that line and is always very classy in defeat and in a win

Did you see his fight with Lauzon? That was Josh Koscheck to the bone. Yea he throws out some of those looping arm punches but he goes into a fight "not to lose" as opposed to going into a fight to get the win.

You know Penn made the excuse of him separating a rib with fighting Matt Hughes... that was just as classless as GSP imo.

And yea I don't like his attitude, anything about it... His fans act like he is Christ re-incarnated and it seems like over time he has bought into this.

And just the way he talks about people... in an interview I saw with Pulver he put it good- You know how in high school the really rich kids look down on the poor kids? That's how he talks about people.

Plus... I don't like Penn's face, lol. He looks like an alien. You know how some people just have that dumb face that you just want to punch?

his normal weight is closer to 155 than 170, so going back up to 170 would actually be harder for him. but the competition is harder there, and he said that's what he wants. can't wait to see him fight hughes again!

I thought Penn just invited him, I didn't hear Pulver say he would get right on it.

Although, it wouldn't surprise me. Pulver's training has just about peaked at the Miletich camp, his style just doesn't go along with what they are all about. That plus Pulver's wife is Hawaiian, so I'm sure they have some reason to end up in Hawaii other than for Pulver to train with BJ... but maybe he would while visiting his wifes family.
