Diablo II Chat Gem

If you click the gem it turns purple and in text will say "Chat Gem Activated"
when you press it again it says "Chat Gem Deactivated" Does anyone know what this does?? Its gonna make me go crazy till i find it out! :banghead: a lot of people have explanations the most logical ones were

" It tells them what programs your running to find out if your using cheats/hacks so they can ban you "
and of course
" It opens and closes my garage door "

The chat gem is an easter egg (or general useless surprise) that existed within the closed beta and stress test of Diablo II. You click it and it changes state and displays a message. Testers *cough* have spend countless hours collectively mindlessly clicking and speculating on how this clicking would affect their status, the game, the speed of development - speculation on just about anything.

Yea that happened to me... so i bought a battle chest lol :rollseyes

If you click it enough times on LOD it says "Perfect gem activated". On classic it says some sort of reference to cows. Neither has an effect on gameplay.

I'm never playing D2 again. I accidentally let all my characters expire and one of them had a perfect pally torch that I had found myself.

I heard it was going to be used for voice chat, but they scrapped that idea long ago.
