The red ring of death. I was wondering if the same has happened to anyone else here and if it has did you send it off for repairs? How much was it because mines way past warranty. I've had mine since the day they came out so I'm not surprised it finally died.

Sorry for your loss dude. :(
Mine died like last year but luckily the warranty was still good for another 3 months so I got it repaired. Try getting it fixed at a local video game store or something. It'll probably be cheaper than going through Microsoft.

The red ring can be fixed quite easily at TIMES.
Unplug the tv cable completely, turn the system on, turn off, plug cable back in. Hopefully it'll be fixed.

yeah my box just broke last thursday. past warranty also. i called them they told me itll be $140 to get fixed and it will include a new 1 year warranty and ill be able to extend the warranty for more $ of course. they send you a box, i got mine wednesday and i sent it out the same day. they pay for shipping (like that matters when you just dropped $140 on a console you already paid $400 for). they told me they will fix my console or send me a refurb, i told them fix it or send me a fresh off the assembly line console. well see what happens from Micro$oft. hope this helps man. also they say it takes like 2-3 weeks total. they also say when they get it they will fix it and ship it within 5 days.

Good old 360 reliability. I was on my second console after 6 days. I just took it back to the store and got a replacement, as the woman on the Microsoft helpline who couldn't speak English told me it would take 6-8 weeks to get it repaired.

It makes you wish everything had a lifetime warranty like the old SNES consoles did. :p

This shit is really scaring me. I just got a brand new 360 a week ago, and I've heard so many horror stories of people's systems dying. I'm loving my system so far. I' had been a Sony fanboy for a long time, but due to the lack of games and pricing, I bought a 360.
I'm trying to take good care of it. I was talking to my friend who works at Gamestop and she was telling me that they have she'll have a relatively large amount of people bring 360's back. She has had a 360 for about a year now, and has had no problems. In a sense, i'm starting to regret my decision. I've had my PS2 since about a month after its launch, and haven't had a SINGLE problem with it. And it's been through hell. If my 360 craps out on me, I'm buying a PS3 and never looking back.

we should take a poll on how many forum members have had hardware problems with their 360s...judging from the amount of people in these threads that reply about it, the number is relatively large...
Dude, I've been reading around lately, and the numbers are frightening. I'm seriously considering just cutting my losses, selling this mother fucker while it still works, and buying a PS3. Not to create rumors or anything, but I've heard of failure rates ranging from 30 to 60%. I have loved my 360 so far, but it makes me a bit uneasy knowing that it could just crap out on me at any minute, and I'll have to pay Microsoft to repair it. Like I've said, I've had my PS2 for about 6 years now, and I have NEVER experienced problems with it. I have had 6 hour binges of Socom 3 online with that thing, and it kept pushing.

I STILL have my ps2 and it still hasn't crapped out on me. That thing is a beast, and I've had it for 5 to 6 years as well.
I'm still getting a 360 no matter if they break down or not, I'll get it replaced or what not. I want those damn sweet games that are coming out...

I'm on my second 360... Luckily I bought a 2-year warranty at Best Buy. All I had to do was bring it in.
They didn't even check if you put in the HDD or controller, damn! I could of kept those as extras!
My new one hasn't failed me..... yet!

I'm one of the few lucky ones. Picked mine up on launch and still works like a charm.
Still, the number of system failurs is quite alarming ... I'm waiting for the day mine crashes. Hopefully never.

the red ring of death happened to me man. my first 360, it fucking sucked and it means hardware failure. i bought it from best buy which replaces it for free. its cool cause i got a new 360, kept my hardware, and kept the extra shit inside *controller/free stuff*, it was great. i think i can still replace it, its still under warranty. this 360s good too. i think 360 is my favorite console ever, simply because of its potential and content. if they were a bit more reliable, they would be fucking amazing. nes and n64 beat the 360 to it however.

I've had mine since launch and this is the first time its given me any problems. I called the tech support and I got some indian guy. Anyways he told me my console was still under warranty so everything is gonna be free. Also another good thing is that one of the xbox 360 repair centers is just about 20 minutes from where I live.

Check this out.
Micromart, a company in the UK that gets contracted out by Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft to repair consoles, has announced its refusing to fix the 3 red rings error since the volume has made this repair non-viable.
http://www.micromartltd.co.uk/
Even better is how Microsoft still fails to acknowledge the overiding factor contributing to these break downs
http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=6183&Itemid=2
"It is our belief that the only sensible way to repair it is to replace the motherboard with a new one without the inherent problems,” said the Micromart employee.
“We believe the fault is an overheating problem due to dry joints. We tried introducing flux to change the context of the compound but our efforts weren’t successful.
“We made a request to Microsoft for support, information and availability of replacement motherboards but didn’t receive a reply.
“We decided it wasn’t in anybody’s best interests to continue the sham that this fault is easily repaired.”
Microsoft reiterated its official line in an email sent to Next-Gen, stating that there is no single cause of Xbox 360 failures.
... ... ...
Fair enough that they have a design fault, Microsoft are a software company, hardwear isn't their strong point, however failing to acknowledge in the face of overwhelming public outcry that there is one part of the 360 design that is really screwing it over ...

The PS3 has so many vents it looks like it just went through acupuncture. Then again, I like the 360's slim and curvy design.

It's not as large as you think. Most people don't make posts to say "yup, my 360 is still working". I post on a gaming forum and out of maybe 100+ members only a handful have had issues.
