Sounds like a great idea. Take a completely failed product, tack it onto a product that's not doing so well itself.
It's not a console, it's a cell phone.

This goes out to all you who thought the iPhone had a bad battery life. Hopefully, they have a better working square button on this one.

Debunked.

http://nextgengamer.wordpress.com/2007/06/12/new-psp-slimphone-rumor-debunked-by-sony/

Edit: Oh btw, reading further down on that article, there's some random guy who says "that doesn't mean it's debunked." But yeah, it is until someone from Sony officially comes out and says that they're working on it. Makes me wonder who drew up those blueprints though. Must be one desperate PSP addict.

However, I believe I read somewhere that the PSP Slim (redesigned PSP anyways) is actually in the works. Soo what can we really expect?

Oh, no. I didn't think Sony was actually making this. I mean, right at the bottom of the page I linked, it said so.

I just think it's funny they have a patent on it.

Yeah the design is pretty wonky. Looks like a spin-off of the Sidekick or something. My main concern would be getting face marks on the fingerprint-prone screen when using the phone feature xD.

It's just a terrible idea. A cell phone should remain a cell phone. If you want to play games on a portable device, buy a PSP or a DS.

Do you guys realise that Sony patent hundreds of random little ideas all the time.

They don't do anything with about 99% of them.

Your move."Your move?" Everything related Sony has to turn into a discussion with you, isn't it?

Show me where it says that Sony doesn't use 99% of it's patents.

99% of the patents are technical details that noone is interested in, whether they're Sony's or not. Sony's patent for a Semiconductor laser device (http://patft1.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PALL&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.htm&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=7,230,962.PN.&OS=PN/7,230,962&RS=PN/7,230,962), is hardly what I would call a "random little idea", it's not innovative nor groundbreaking, it's technical detail and noone cares.

Here's a count of the US patents granted to some companies during june. I don't have numbers for Nintendo.

Samsung - 876
IBM - 479
Microsoft - 430
Canon - 390
Sony - 339
Toshiba - 312
Matsushita - 311
Hitachi - 307
Fujitsu - 306
Intel - 245
Apple - 19
Yahoo - 15
Google - 10

As you might see, the number of patents is not related to a companies success, and Sony certainly isn't special for having lots of patents.

ps: your move ;)
