A friend of mine, who's father owns a series of apartment complexes and condos, gave his son, among many other gifts, 'any PC he wanted.'

He went to AlienWare.com and pimped out a comp for 10,000 (!!!!!!) fucking dollars.

Holy shit, it has fucking everything. 2 30' monitors, 4 gigs of sweet ass RAM, 2 (!!!) terabytes of memory, the whole nine yards. He literally doesn't even know what RAM is, but he basically 'ticked off' every possible option at the customize website, so he ordered a famazing computer.

Does anyone think this is a good idea; is there a better PC site to customize with? Is AlienWare a good site? Is my friend retarded for NOT knowing what he's buying, but doing it anyway.

The only offset is... he really can afford it, it's not that big of a deal to him, but still... what advice would you give him?

He bought 4 gigs of ram? What an idiot. Too bad he didn't spend more time on internet, or else he would know you could just download some.

I would tell him to give me some money.

He could've a similar or better PC for maybe $8,000 if he built it.

Sounds like a waste... you only need 3 gigs, since windows only sees 3.2 gigs of ram. Its pretty easy and cheap to just download the 0.2.

But in all honesty, that sounds like a fucking supercomputer. How do you fit all of that into a standard case? 2 terabytes? sound card, physics card, 2 giant graphics cards, and to think this guy knows nothing about computers and how he'll just fuck it up with going to bad porn sites and getting adware and viruses.

on the other hand, he's your friend......use him.

I'm getting a computer from Falcon Northwest that will be pretty much maxed out. I was originally going to get the Aenima eye image from the Tool cd painted onto the side of the case, but the paint job itself would've been around 5k. Instead I'm going to get a purple colored flame onto a peral white background. The computer will cost around 13k, but I aint paying a damn thing for it. I got a scholarship for working on getting a computer science degree and a part of the scholarship is I get to build a ultimate computer costing no more than 15k.

Could of probably got all that for 5k or less if you built it yourself, aside from the monitors.

4 gigs of sweet ass RAM, 2 (!!!) terabytes of memory

I think u mean a 2 terabyte hard drive... because RAM and memory are the same thing.

Sounds like a sweet computer, but 2 terabytes seems worthless and a waste to me, Most space id buy is 200 gb, i cant see me using any more then that.

And yeah probably coulda built the computer for less, which is what i plan on doing when im older.

Since I'm in NZ and prefer to build my own computers, I've never really looked into Alienware. Sure they probably customise good PCs, but I've heard that they're rather overpriced.

Fungus Amungus

Alienware, Falcon Northwest and Voodoo PC are "overpriced" due to the unique cases and Falcon is even more expensive due to the availbility of getting a custom paint job. If you want a computer without the fancy case go to Ibuypower or Cyberpower. They have some good setups.

so he could have 10 viruses and his computer wouldn't run any slower?

Burningnun

It sounds good until you have Greenpeace kicking down your fucking door.

I didn't even think there is a single PSU in existence that will run that stable. Is he using two?

If money isn't an issue, inform him of phase change cooling.

It's 30 inches, which is almost 3 feet.

Jesus, not 30 feet.

And Idk, it's supposed to be a standard chassis, case.

It's fucking unreal.

please tell your friend that having 2 30" monitors is silly, but maybe he has a reason to want to. Also, tell him that he probably has the most powerful computer ever, which is a little bit silly. Like he could run the entirety of NASA and run four high end games at once.

and tell him to send me monies.

I don't know why, but I stupidly clicked that. Don't click it anyone.

I've never seen the point in having 2 monitors, I get along fine with just 1.
