I palyed wow for a while but I got bored of it after a while. It has nice graphics and plenty of different areas and monsters to kill but its really jsut an extremely long grind. I got pretty sick of the lack of choices, all you could do was take a quest and kill the monsters or whatver then rinse and repeat.

Are there any mmo's or single player games (minus the pvp of course) that allow you to do way more things? Like build a house, create different things with different tools, guard your land versus incursions, free range pvp etc.?

Garrysmod (http://www.garrysmod.com/). Its not rpg or whatever but you build shit and can have fort wars. Only $10 but you have to have hl2, CSS, DODS, or another source game.

The correct term you're looking for is non-linear not free-range and the games you're looking for are called GTA4 and Bioshock.

Bioshock is not going to be a free-range game, and free-range and non-linear are completely different things.

i know this sounds cliche but oblivion. it is without a doubt the most free range game of the last couple years. it's an entire world to discover. i've put in 20 hours and haven't even started the main quest yet

No game is as free range as real life.

Or the Sims. Which is like real life.

In Ultima Online (MMORPG) you can build you're own house and craft things.

i'd say oblivion, it's incredibly free range, and there are plenty of awesome mods for it

wait for Fallout 3 aka one of the best games ever to come out. go to your local market and buy game informer this month theres an article on it. you can get a dog companion, so friggin sick.

EDIT: plus its made by the makers of oblivion, its like the same game with guns (not STALKER). BETHEDSA

Man I loved that game..crappy 2d graphics, but you could do even more things than you do in oblivion which is saying something. And I liked the skill and age system. Only downfall was the PVP was mostly if you had GMed all of your skill, your equipment, and luck.

oblivion is good, but keep in mind you dont build anything, or own anything personally

You can buy your own house, decorate it and move stuff around etc.

But the system for doing that is ultrabad.

lol actually

star wars galaxies before the Combat Upgrade

be anything
own a house
be a mayor
be a businesman (dont have to fight but sell things like literaly)
be a doctor who actually works in a hospital
architect
engineer (builds droids and vehicles)
dancer (they help heal mind wounds (lol) literally))
play instruments (heal mind wounds too)

errr many more

become a scout an explorer, set up camps

but its all gone because of this new upgrade system

so if you play the towns are like so empty

but before the upgrade, the towns are swamped

the game was full of bugs, but they were minor bugs that dont hamper the gameplay at all.

swgemods.com for details (theyre emulating the game back to its original state before the ugprade that ruined the fun experience)

Haha I agree. It'll be a while until it reaches Sims customisability. :p

Moving objects around is the worst thing - try to place 10 bottles on the top of a chest of drawers, and you'll see what I mean. :D

Man I played that game all the way from the release to the NGE. NGE just completely ruined fucking everything, but that was the ultimate game for me. They had the ships, the houses, the player organized towns, and the storyline was fucking awesome as well. I remember many, many Reb against Emp PVE battles on Tat now. Also, the crafting was pretty fun but it was one of the longest grinds ever.

Can't wait for the emu.
