You would think a forum as large as this would have a search option. Unless I am not seeing it.

You have to be a premium user for the search option there buddy.

You need to be a premium member to search:

He didn't ask 'how do you search', he asked 'why is there no search'.
And the answer is because these forums are very popular and Eric Bauman is very greedy, so in an attempt to scrounge more money he has stripped the forums of some of its features and offered them to us for $25...

It is because search uses a lot of bandwidth, and when you have 20000 members using it, the forum crashes ever hour. That's why.

I've seen larger forums than this that have search available to every user. During the infancy of Pojo.biz, they only allowed moderators and higher the search function, but then when they got a better server, they made it available to everyone. 57,000 members as compared to EBW's 34,000, so it's not that much more overloaded, so the real difference is in the software/hardware running to keep that forum up.
With the millions of dollars EBW takes in in ad revenue, you'd think that they could afford a better server, but choose to keep it as is, so that "Premium" is justified. It's defective by design.
Yes, it sucks that we don't have built-in search, but as a business move it's smart to keep it like this.
(Also YTMND sucks and Max dying would make the world a better place)

I'm on forums larger than eBaums and I have also never heard such a ridiculous answer. LMAO.
And some of these forums are private with no ads.

Well if you don't like it you are free to either DIAF or GTFO ...
Not that I care either way. If you really want something dug up you can ask someone who is Prem. to look it up or you can spend hours looking through the archives ...
Although I don't think the "ZOMG REPOST!!1!!1" bitching is justified based upon the fact that we don't have a search. I'd understand it if people could look for shit, but they can't so cut them some slack.

Searching is a very elite matter, and only those who pay for it are granted its wonders....:rollseyes

This (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&as_qdr=all&q=+site%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fforum.ebaumsworld.com+%2B+&btnG=Search) works too. Add whatever you want after the plus.

Or you can use L337 haxing skills and compile your own search program using the software that this forum uses.

We get this question like three times a week. Give 25 bucks to ebaum and you get the search option.

That's so stupid...
Not only do people NOT pay $25 merely for a search option but its his site. He's not forcing anyone to purchase Premium membership. If you don't like what the $25 gets you, then don't buy it. If you don't like the site without those options, don't visit.
The answer to the question is merely, "Because it's not available to non members." Period.

Where in my post did I say people pay $25 for just a search option? fucktard!

Did I say I don't like it, did I even complain about it? No! I'm just saying how it is, so STFU!

I didn't say you said people purchased premium JUST for the search option, now did I?
You said, "so in an attempt to scrounge more money he has stripped the forums of some of its features..."
The "search option" is a feature, is it not? Unless something in the definition of "feature" has changed, I believe it is. Therefore, they're not buying one single feature, they're buying a bunch of features. One of them happens to be the search option. That's my point.
Did I say I don't like it, did I even complain about it? No! I'm just saying how it is, so STFU!
It's your usage of words, dink.
"Eric Bauman is very greedy, so in an attempt to scrounge more money he has stripped..."
No, you're not trying to get a message across here. :rollseyes
The fact of the matter is, EB decided to add the search option to the list of many options included in the Premium package. Like it or leave it. THAT'S how it is.
Your little additions of "greed" and "scrounging money" makes you sound like a sniveling whelp with a grudge of some sort.

Yes, yes you did, you said "Not only do people NOT pay $25 merely for a search option...."
According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the word "merely" means "and nothing more". You were correcting me on something I never said!

There is nothing misleading about the words I used. Eric Bauman makes $10,000,000 a year, I can't think of a better definition of "very greedy" or "scrounging money" than a guy on that kind of salary removing standard features from his forum and only allowing us to use them for a small fee. How you can disagree with that is beyond me. I have no grudge against him, when I handed my $25 no one made me do it. If anything I'm jealous of him, but hey, who here isn't!

Still negative there dude. Like I said, I was making a point not an accusation.
You quoted me but nowhere are the words, "You said people pay $25 merely for a search option."
What I was doing is known as "clarifying." The subject in question is the search option, not various other options.

First, how in the hell do you know EB makes 10Million a year?
Secondly, you're going right back to where you were before. Not all the features are standard features. You're deliberately, as before, trying to insinuate people are paying for simple things like the search option when the TRUTH of the matter is they're paying for a multitude of options, search being one of the many.
I mean seriously, we're talking about a "SEARCH" option. If you don't have the ability, you can easily get around such lacking in the REQUESTS thread. Simple as that. Greed would be taking away an option necessary for daily posting activity. The search option is not one of those.

I read it on wikipedia I think
Not all the features are standard features
Yes they are, every single one of them! Everything offered in the premium package comes as standard with all vBulletin forums, if he had made his own applications/addons and was charging us for them then fair enough, but he's not.
Greed would be taking away an option necessary for daily posting activity. The search option is not one of those.
It is a necessary feature for daily posting. If someone were to query all the threads on the forums for the most used words I'm sure "REPOST" would be up there. If we had a search option then we wouldn't get nearly as much reposts as we do. And the reason why we don't have a search option is not because it would overload the database like caveman said (he probably gets a cut of all money made from premium), it's because EBWF has a massive video forum, pictures forum etc that people will want to search.
Eric Bauman charging for this standard feature is because he's greedy and nothing more, and your an idiot for disagreeing with that!

It's true. Every single vBulletin forums I've ever been to has a standard search feature. That's the only reason I think it's stupid that this one charges for it. I'm not complaining, and I'm not expecting it to change. I'm not paying $25, either.
(Yes, I KNOW there are more things you get than the search feature)

Jesus fuck you people complain, what the hell do you need to search for anyways. Its a free site for 89% of the place, the ONLY thing in premium thats different (besides search) is the ability to post NWS material.
