Ive noticed collective soul doesnt or really has never gotten much attention or the respect they deserve. I think their one of the greatest bands to play. Not just because their my favorite but because almost every single song they have just plain old kicks ass. Im sure at least a few of you have heard them or a few of you even like them. Am I wrong to beleive their one of the best bands? What does everyone else think about them?

I agree with you. I have always liked them myself, and for some reason alot of my friends dont know who they are. I also would have to say that they are one of the most underated bands out there. Thats just my 2cents.

Never gotten much attention?? Are you kidding? They have gotten alot of attention, now the respect thing...

They lost alot of respect when they were accused of writing songs using a "formula". Basically people said that they were using the same chord progressions and making the songs sound the same to try to get hits. They admitted it was true and alot of people thought they sucked because of that. If that is what they needed to do to get a hit fine, but alot of people lost respect for them after that. AS far as not getting recognition, they got plenty of recognition and plenty of chances to prove themselves. They just aren't "superstars" like aerosmith or something but they are good. I have 3 of their cd's and I really like them but they are not great and alot of the songs do sound alike.

You sure you aren't thinking of Everclear?

NO, but I guess Art Could be accused of that to.

It was Ed Roland that they accused, he writes the songs for collective soul and he uses alot of the same stuff in his songs.

Thats odd bro, I never heard of them using a "formula" but I beleive you. Even if they did, theres nothing wrong with that. Every musicians goal and job is to make hits. Thats all they were doing. As long as it sounds good I dont care if they have to stick harmonicas in their ass and fart out lyrics. You kinda know what im saying? But its good to see a few people like them :)

Ya I agree, whatever they want/need to do to be successful is fine with me.
