That was pretty unbelievable. I keep hearing this bullshit that he was "saving" him for the 2nd half of the season. Oh cmon, one freaking at bat will not hinder his progress in the 2nd half.
The game was pretty damn good, but it would have been incredibly exciting having probably the best hitter in the league at bat with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th inning.
TLR really confused me by not going with Pujols. If you go to other message boards...Cardinal fans are really pissed too.

I agree with you to a point first off I think Pujols should have gone in but in the same token its the All_Star Game and really means nothing even though "it counts' for home field I think the All Star Game in Baseball is dieing a slow death, as it is in hockey.

Yeah I dont know what LaRussa was thinking. If he wanted to win he would of put Pujols in instead of Hudson lol.
Also Leyland should of just used Papelbon or Okajima to close it. Putz and Krod were terrible. Somehow they won it.

Yeah, it counts for homefield. That really made a difference in last years World Series didnt it?

Well it helped the Red Sox a little with the Shilling situation but I guess you can argue that the Sox were not going to lose that year as it was time. Hockey will not die so STFU Chewy! this isnt even related... all the all-star games pretty much suck.

Well, more has come to light:

SAN FRANCISCO -- Albert Pujols was angry about being left on the All-Star bench and the St. Louis slugger took aim at the National League manager -- who just happened to be Tony La Russa of his own Cardinals.
"It's the All-Star Game. He can do what he wants," Pujols said Tuesday night. "He does whatever he wants. If I wasn't expecting to play, I wouldn't have come up here."
Pujols, the NL MVP in 2005 and key to the Cardinals' win in the World Series last year, said La Russa didn't talk to him the entire game.
Pujols could only watch when Aaron Rowand flied out with the bases loaded to end the American League's 5-4 win.
"If he wants to get upset, he can get upset," La Russa said. "Whatever he wants to do, he can do. It's America. That wasn't the most important thing tonight." ....
La Russa said he indeed was saving his star player in case the game went long.
"Once we lost [Miguel] Cabrera and [Freddy] Sanchez, he was the guy we were going to use to protect ourselves in case we kept playing because of Albert's versatility," La Russa said. "I think we had the right guy at bat."
A six-time All-Star, Pujols finished about 770,000 votes behind starting first baseman Prince Fielder. He played left field regularly in 2002 and '03 and also saw time at third base in 2001 and '02.
Pujols said he was getting his body loose the whole night.
"I was ready to go since the game started," Pujols said.
Now it just makes TLR look like an idiot. Saving him for extras? So I guess not PH him in the 9th with the bases loaded was the right decision.

Well although i have to agree what an idiot tonny La Russa was for not putting in Pujlos hes really got to be kicking himself about that now right? even after the American league walked 3 consecutive batters at the end to load the bases. they practically gave the game back to the american league all they needed to to was put in Pujols :banghead:
but the one thing that really amazed me was Ichiros homerun, has that ever been done before in an all star game?

Nope thats the first inside the park homerun ever in an allstar game.
Aside from the pujols thing, I'd like to bring up something else.
Santanna, I wont even try to spell his first name, Now all of the pitchers in the game both teams are amazing yes, but Santanna goes out there and totally dominates the best of the best.. Does anyone else get an eye opener by seeing that? It was amazing if you ask me. Sure hes not the only pitcher to do good but the fashion he did it was amazing.

Santana is the man. I hope the Twins can retain him for many years to come.

Remember when Pedro faced 6 batters and struck them all out in the 99 ASG I think.

I am a huge Cardinals fan, and I was super fucking pissed he didn't put in Pujols. La Russa may have won us a world Series, but disrespecting the best player on your team is a disgrace. That decision single handedly made me hate La Russa. Go to Cincinatti bitch.
