What do you consider some of the movie shocking deaths in film? These are the deaths that just hit you in the face and you think, wtf, they can't be really dead can they.
For me (What I can remember at the moment):
-Obi-Wan Kenobi (Star Wars)
-William Costigan (The Departed)
-Gandalf (Lord of the Rings)
-Sonny Corleone (Godfather)
-Queenan (The Departed)
-Nick (The Deer Hunter)
-Vincient Vega (Pulp Fiction)
-Nicky Santoro (Casino)
-Tommy DeVito (Goodfellas)
-Russel Franklin (Deep Blue Sea- just because you didn't see it coming with the shark eating Sam Jackson)
That's all I can think of at the moment. What do you think?

Shocking can have many different facets then just 'They can't be dead can they?' It can also be 'Man, I didn't see THAT coming' or simply 'Ewww! That hit me in the face!'
I will definitely put Samuel Jackson's character in 'Deep Blue Sea' in there.
I think the death of Bobby Bats at the beginning of 'Goodfellas' was pretty shocking.
Brad Pitt's character in 'Meet Joe Black' when he gets hit by the car.
The head blowing scene from Cronenberg's 'Scanners'
I'll add more when I think of them.

Vic Morrow (Twilight Zone)
Brandon Lee (The Crow)
Oh....I thought you meant real deaths.

Ahhh! How could one forget Quint! (Robert Shaw). That death stuck with me for most of my life! Watching Jaws as a 9 year old was pretty scarring and that scene was the clincher.

Ben Afleck in Smokin' Aces.
Just because it's like Ben Afleck. And the movie wasn't even half way through and he got blasted.
I pretty much didn't see it coming at all.

Yep, i opened this thread just to type that or someone saying this.
Those were some of the most crazy deaths in just how quickly and abruptly they happened. I was like, "please just stop this!" and was crazied out.
Also, Sasha in Enemy at the Gates was pretty shocking. Also his buddy, i forget the name.
Also, Extra #42 in Star Wars... why God!

I forget what the movie was called, but it starred Keanu Reeves as some inner city baseball coach. Anyways one of the kids gets shot and it's like the saddest fucking thing I've ever seen in a movie.

If Keanu Reeves was in it, it couldn't have been THAT sad.
Kid #1: *gets shot*
Kid #2: NO!!!! *cries uncontrollably* WHY!?
*sad music plays, along with dramatic camera angles*
*record scratch*
Keanu Reeves: WHOA!

Hardball. That scene was fucking sad. I've heard tough-as-nails-never-crying-sons-of-bitches admit that they started crying when they saw G-Baby get shot.
Also, I wasn't expecting the baby to die in Trainspotting.
And I'm so surprised nobody's mentioned American History X when the kid gets shot in the end. Sad shit.

That waterboy in the Gridiron gang. Right at the end of the movie they tell you about what happened to the characters after the football season and they say the kid gets killed. I was just like wtf?

Colin Sullivan (The Departed) - I didn't expect him to die.
Patrick Bateman ( American Psycho) - I know he didn't die, but they should have killed this bastard.
In the Lord of the Flies... I definitly went WTF?! when those kids stabbed that one kid to death with spears and his lifeless body was laying there washed up on the shore.
And when that little kid kill that fat boy with a giant boulder. That was crazy.

Ah yes, Randle McMurphy ... that was shocking and sad. Great movie though.
Also, in The Shining. Most people probably expected Jack would come out of his crazed state or die, but to show the family leave then quickly go to his frozen body was a bit of a shock.

Thats the movie! R.I.P. G-Baby. Also I was pretty shocked when Julianne Moore gets shot in Children of Men. She was only in the movie for like 15 minutes.

I disagree. You could tell he was messed up and something was wrong with him from the start of the movie.

What? Aside from being fat? Its the truth, fat people are natural traitors. The guy from Jurassic Park with the whipped cream fixation comes to mind.
But I can't really think of any shocking deaths.
