I'm looking for films with a unique style, something different. Open to anything, including animation (think Waking Life). Recommend any good (independent a bonus) films with a cool style.

Charlie Kaufman movies. One of the most unique, brilliant minds to ever make movies. His scripts are like nothing you have ever seen before.

Being John Malkovich
Adaptaion
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Those are his best. And they are amazing. If your looking for most unique, go with Being John Malkovich. Its the kind of movie that is so unique that if the idea came to you, you had the idea to write this movie, you would just laugh and never bother, because it is so absurd that it seems like it would never work. I am not just amazed that Kaufman can think of his movies, but that he actually thinks "Yeah, I can make a movie out of that."

The biggest problem with Charlie Kaufman is that his scripts are so genius, there is not a director alive who can do 100% justice to his screenplay. Spike Jonze did a great job, but I dont think any director can make a movie as good as his script.

Yeah thats another good one. The story is confusing as fuck. I really have no clue what was going on the entire time. But its really cool. Its present day, but everyone speaks and acts like they did in Detective novels from the 30s. Its really fun to watch, even though (like I said) you will not be able to follow the story after the first 10 minutes.

Jurassic Park has an interesting style.

No it doesnt.

just saw deja vu....not really an interesting style but i love movies that come full circle

speaking of denzel, man on fire has great style to it from a directing standpoint. it uses a lot of motion stop/freeze framing in addition to emphasizing important words by writing them on the screen.

I dunno if you could get your hands on this one, but Run Lola Run (by german director Tom Tykwer) is pretty wierd, but has a very interesting style to it.

I saw it in my media class once, my first impression of it was "Pff, low budget german subtitles movie...this will probably suck" but it was fuckin great!

Cant really give you any more details about it, since i saw it about 3-4 years ago, but definitly worth checking out.

Enjoy :)

"Hero" with Jet Li is very awesome. Very stylized.

"Requiem for a Dream" is very interesting.

Just got done watching "Curse of the Golden Flower." That movie is sick-looking on blu-ray!:ahhh:

Do you watch many detective movies? If anything, the story ikn this one is really simple compared to, say, The Maltese Falcoln or D.O.A.

Well of course its not the most complex of them all, and I have seen others. But when I got done watching this movie, I went to read some reviews to pick up what I missed, and just about all of them described it as the same hard to follow story that I saw. I think Brick played exactly like all other film noir movies. Hard to follow throughout, makes better sense at the end (but still isnt totally clear, sometimes even less clear), but after its all done you realize how much sense it made hardly effected your enjoyment because you know those movies are all about the style and attitude, the journey not the destination.
