It's a great album, sure. I don't know why everyone says they don't like it. I was watching an interview with Mike Portnoy, and he's saying that he can never please the fans. Train of Thought was too heavy, Octavarium wasn't heavy enough, blah blah blah.
I thought this was one of their better albums. In the Presence of Enemies was the perfect way to start the album, too. So many good songs with awesome intros on the album.
I hope to see them in Toronto in August, but I'm not crossing my fingers.
Awesome band.

damn im jealous...i've yet to see symphony x..their new album is awesome too!
i think i read somewhere that "systematic chaos" was DT's highest selling release thus far...i think...unless i'm tripping. I think its their best since metropolis pt 2. but i thought that train of thought and octavarium were both awesome too. IMO they haven't put out a bad album. each has been a little different in its own way...and seeing them live is an experience all its own...can't wait! august 22nd! gonna be sick!

I'd say Falling into Infinity is a bad album.

Hell's Kitchen and New Millennium, too.
That was a great album. It was a lot more... Adult contemporary kinda music, but it still had it's awesome songs.
There's not an album that I don't like. Although Charlie Dominici's vocals on WDADU were kinda cheesy.

Theres a lot of depth to the album, but I really think DT is starting to stray from what they do best. They should stop trying to be bad-ass and just put out creative music.

ok, so i just came back from the dream theater concert in the open air ampitheater, and it was absolutely amazing. there were two opening bands, into eternity (sucked) and redemption. (they had their moments)
at around nine, dream theater comes on stage and plays the theme to "2001 space odyssey" which got everyone really excited.
i can't remember every song they played, but they did play four songs off of their new album. other songs included blind faith, in the name of god, the spirit carries on, i walk beside you, etc. for their encore they played a medley of assorted dream theater songs.
they were very tight, portnoy even caught every single one his sticks he tossed up in the air! everytime he caught it, my girlfriend cheered.
the high light of the night would have to be when jordan busted out his "keytar" and stood right next to petrucci as they played 32nd note lines in unison. it's amazing to listen to on the c.d, but seeing it live is a whole other experience. if you guys have one concert to see this year, make it dream theater, if you want.

Explain what that means.

He whipped out an instrument which is basically a guitar with keys, and they played really really quick notes in sync, which is difficult to do.

At the Herbie Hancock concert I went to, he whipped out his keytar and had a duel with East and Loueke. That was pretty awesome.

I just got back, holy fuck.
best show i've ever been to by far.
that keytar was so badass, perfect setlist too.
highlight was Pull Me Under and The Dark Eternal Night
that was my second time seeing into eternity as well, and I like them quite a bit,
Redemption was gay.

The oakdale (not any longer) but the oakdale has been where i saw DT the last few times and I couldn't imagine it anywhere else. its such an intimate venue almost any seat in the house is a good seat....did you go last year when the show opened with the "orange theme"
side note i'd be happy with them playing whatever they want...but i demand endless sacrifice. I busted out train of thought after not listening to if for a long ass time and forgot how much i liked that cd.
