wow. this is a mind blowing day for MMA fans. both sherk and franca test positive. sherk had the most amount... with over TWICE the normal amount in his body. they are both suspended for 1 year and fined $2500. they said the title will most likely be stripped from sherk.
franca has released a statement at MMAWEEKLY.com explaining the reason why he did it. it is more of an explanation than an excuse and you can read it here

That's fucking bullshit that BJ Penn may be given the title when all he did was beat Jens fucking Pulver. Not only that it was bullshit he was going to get a title shot, fucking pathetic.
Oh, and that does surprise me....damn.

Wow. That's pitiful.
BJ Penn should at least have to fight somebody (i.e.,Roger Huerta, Joe Stevenson)

yep, i was just about to bring ebaum's the bad news until i saw this thread already in progress.
very disappointing day for MMA. i wonder how they're going to decide who gets the belt? i think that bj penn should fight gomi for a unification title.

BJ does make the most sense, I guess. Evil was the last true LW champ, and never technically lost the strap. Prodj whooped that ass, Jens is going down to 45(?), so Im down with it.

I'd like to see Penn, Gomi, Hansen and Aoki all throw into a tournament for the title.
UFC practically has a golden opportunity to stack the division with awesome fighters.

Thanks to the damn athletic commissions, a tourney would have to spread over several PPVs. :(
Then again, they could do it at an overseas show....
I agree, the LWs are my favorite division. Nothing but fireworks!

That's actually how I prefer it.
I think when they are faced with possibly-multiple fights in a night, they have to leave some gas in the tank so to speak, which I think keeps them from going all out.

If that were the case the first person Jens lost to since coming back to the UFC was Joe Lauzon, might as well give him the belt.
Giving a belt to someone is ridiculous. BJ did nothing to earn it by giving it to him, and quite frankly did nothing to earn a shot. You have guys that are on good win streaks beating some good and mediocore competition (but atleast they have a streak going, aka Huerta).
I'm hoping for a tournament as well. Joachim Hansen, Gomi, Clay Guida, Tyson Griffin, Frank Edgar, Joe Stevenson, Marcus Aurelio, Roger Huerta, Din Thomas, Kenny Florian, Shinya Aoki, Mach, Spencer Fisher, Joe Lauzon, BJ Penn, and some other dude to make it a 16 fighter tournament. 3 lightweight tournament bouts each event, that would be awesome.
But if there is no tournament, which their probably wont be, I think it should be the winner of Thomas/Fisher facing off against Joe Stevenson, because if, and probably when he beats Pellegrino he HAS to be the #1 contender.

HAHAHAHA
Sherk's a fukin tool
AFter watching the half hour or so coverage of his intense daily workout and extremely healthy diet (baby food, all organic vegetables) i was pretty convinced he was an honest champ.
LOL! ohh mann no wonder sherk can withstand his longass workout where he says he loves to workout as long as possible in order to avoid fatigue during a fight - a reaal disappointment in my book :preachon:

Would definately be awesome to have those fighters you listed above in a tournament. Id root for Shinya Aoki, no doubt about that.
This definately does suck alot, I was so impressed with Sean Sherk and had alot of respect for him, unfortunately thats all gone now.
Atleast the UFC is having a zero tolerance to roids.

It sounds like the UFC allows a limited amount of roids as roids are used to heal injuries. What happens to the decision of the fight? Still stands or erased?

The thing I think pretty much everyone agrees on is that Dana needs to bring in some big Pride talent to really kick the division up a notch.

Wow Sherk is a jackass. I never want to hear the name "Muscle Shark" or anything about his workouts or diet again.

If it were up to Dana he'd have them all by now, I'm sure there are difficulties.
If you ask me the division is already top notch, but I agree definitely throw in some PRIDE guys to spice it up.
It's the middleweight division that needs work. Once the strongest division in the UFC, now the weakest.

Well Sherk sure does like he does roids, but damn. Throw them out, strip the belt, of course. Dont give the belt to anyone, at least do like they did when they would give the winner of Sherk-Florian the vacant belt. Set up a fight between the top 2 contenders. Which if you ask me should be Tyson Griffin vs. Spencer Fisher.

Did...... you..... really... just call Andy Wang a top competitor for the LW belt?
I've never read such an asinine comment about MMA. and I read on the underground forum. That says a lot about asinine MMA comments.

Rule of three, brother. The third item in any list should be comedic relief.

Huerta would be the #3 contender in my mind, and last I heard BJ is going back up to 170, because he really doesnt like actually having to get in shape. Doesnt matter who gets the belt though, cuz Guida is going to take it and hold it FOREVER!!!
...thats a fact by the way.
