He'll only be playing for about 10 minutes, but how do you think he will do?

He has a ankle injury, so don't expect him to do much but take corners and maybe 1 free kick.

10 minutes is not going to be enough time to showcase any of what talent he may have left. He's still not in optimal shape to showcase anything either. I wouldn't expect much from the 10 minutes. He'll probably get extra attention from the defense, so he might have difficulty in finding space to move around. In any case, they simply want him to be on the field so they sell some tickets. They aren't expecting solid play from him in his first game. He's not in optimal condition to play 90 right now, so they just want him on the field to say he was in the line up. He'll touch the ball a couple times, crowd will get excited and that's about it. He might play an extra 5 more minutes, but his substitute will be ready from the start to replace him. I consider myself a big time soccer fan, but I'm not all too caught up with Beckham in the MLS. He'll definately help the team, but I've seen him play before and for me, he's not something I'm eager to witness and appreciate. This buzz is for the casual fan and those interested in the whole Beckham show. The Red Bulls probably have the bigger signing in Juan Pablo Angel, who might be on his way to the league MVP this year. Eddie Johnson is slightly ahead with his numbers, but Angel will improve in the 2nd half, having become accustomed to the league.

I tuned in literally seconds before he entered the game.

Is it legal for him to wear different colored socks? I cant tell which one he is, and Im watching in full 1080p.

Whoever told you that you were watching a 1080p broadcast was lying to you.

Broadcast 1080i, upscaled by my receiver to 1080p.

So you are saying ESPN sends you a special 1080i signal, while they send everyone else a 720p signal?

Not sure....I have a Cox cable HD receiver, and it displays all hi-def channels in 1080i. Maybe it upscales, too. I dunno. I do know that of all the HD channels, ESPN is second only to the Discovery Channel in picture quality.

Yeah, you can change the output on most cable boxes, so it's probably just set to 1080i. As far as the channels ESPN(2), ABC, and FOX are the only ones i know of who use 720p, because of the advantages it has of interlaced, nothing is actually going to be broadcast in 1080p for a long time. Also since you say you upconvert your 1080i to p, does it actually get rid of the blocky picture from fast action that you get from the shitty HD cameras nbc uses? I've always wondered if it would even help.

I dont get blocky action at all. My HDMI sources, cable box and PS3, as well as my component DVD player, all go thru my Onkyo receiver. It looks perfect on the Bravia TV.

For people that don't understand soccer but watched this game, you need to realize that this was like the Indianapolis Colts taking on Temple University, with Indy just beginning pre-season and shaving there stars minutes, and Temple in mid-season form with all there best players playing full minutes.

pretty cool i would say, im not a big soccer fan but i think it would be pretty neat if it ever got big here in the united states. If Beckham can't help the sport in america then no one can.

When I was at college I did an FA football coaching award and then I was offered to go teach football/soccer in America but my mate didnt fancy it and I didnt want to do it on my own bcoz I was only 16 and didnt think moving thousands of miles away from friends and family on my own was such a good idea at the time.....
I well wish I had done now though.

One thing is for sure, if I had gone, wherever I was the kids wouldnt be saying soccer, they would be saying football, they would all be Liverpool fans, despise Man U and I would probably be responsible for the introduction of hooliganism into America :)

what american soccer needs is superstars like beckham. they need great players to get the public emotionally invested into the sport. without those superstars, soccer is as good as dead.

Yeah but like I said I was only 16 and I didnt fancy going to Chicago (Im sure thats where it was) on my own, I would have defo gone if my mate who was doing the course with me said he would.
Its one of those things I will always regret.

Hey I could have stayed, got American citizenship and be playing for the American national side now

Seriously though I know it would have been great, just a shame I didnt have the bottle to go do it.
Even now I bet Id be a better coach than 99% of the guys coaching amature and college sides.

You should read what AsHopeDies writes, he has it bang on why football isnt as big in the US as everywhere else.

Just quit what ever you're doing now, and go back to the traning again if you need too? Do they sort everything out for you? Like place to stay and all that?
